The Cody Rhodes Factor

Tonight’s NXT Championship match carries main-roster stakes. WWE announced that whoever walks out of Deadline as NXT Champion will face Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event XLII next weekend—the same show featuring John Cena’s retirement match.

The match with Cody is being positioned as a special attraction rather than a standard title defense, but it’s still a massive platform for NXT talent.

If Ricky Saints retains, it advances a storyline where Cody gives a major opportunity to a close friend he’s publicly supported for years. That dynamic has fueled ongoing debate about whether Saints’ push is earned or boosted by that relationship.

If Oba Femi regains the title, it creates a “dominant NXT monster vs. top WWE champion” dynamic that gives Cody a fresh crossover opponent while reinforcing his role as a locker-room leader who tests rising talents.

Either way, the NXT main event serves as a live qualifier for a Cody Rhodes marquee match in front of a broader audience. The Deadline result immediately feeds into Cody’s next chapter heading into Saturday Night’s Main Event.

We know Drew McIntyre will be involved in some way as it is clear the feud with Rhodes isn’t over.

Iron Survivor Implications

Both Iron Survivor Challenge matches set up future title opportunities. The men’s winner earns a shot at the NXT Championship at New Year’s Evil, while the women’s winner becomes the next challenger to the NXT Women’s Championship.

Je’Von Evans, Joe Hendry, and Leon Slater bring star power to the men’s match. Quite honestly, all three men have a very strong case for being elevated to the main roster. for now, they may be set to put on a banger at Deadline.

The women’s side features former TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace alongside Sol Ruca and Kelani Jordan—any of whom could carry a title program into 2026. But I feel like I’m repeating myself.

Check out my SmackDown results from December 5 covering the Last Time is Now tournament final that had me confused and my breakdown on Austin Theory’s return on Raw.

I’ll also have a full results article once Deadline has concluded that’ll break down any surprises and standout performances.

Cashing In On University Patents Means Giving Up On Our Innovation Future

The post Cashing In On University Patents Means Giving Up On Our Innovation Future appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. “It’s a raid on American innovation that would deliver pennies to the Treasury while kneecapping the very engine of our economic and medical progress,” writes Pipes. Getty Images Washington is addicted to taxing success. Now, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is floating a plan to skim half the patent earnings from inventions developed at universities with federal funding. It’s being sold as a way to shore up programs like Social Security. In reality, it’s a raid on American innovation that would deliver pennies to the Treasury while kneecapping the very engine of our economic and medical progress. Yes, taxpayer dollars support early-stage research. But the real payoff comes later—in the jobs created, cures discovered, and industries launched when universities and private industry turn those discoveries into real products. By comparison, the sums at stake in patent licensing are trivial. Universities collectively earn only about $3.6 billion annually in patent income—less than the federal government spends on Social Security in a single day. Even confiscating half would barely register against a $6 trillion federal budget. And yet the damage from such a policy would be anything but trivial. The true return on taxpayer investment isn’t in licensing checks sent to Washington, but in the downstream economic activity that federally supported research unleashes. Thanks to the bipartisan Bayh-Dole Act of 1980, universities and private industry have powerful incentives to translate early-stage discoveries into real-world products. Before Bayh-Dole, the government hoarded patents from federally funded research, and fewer than 5% were ever licensed. Once universities could own and license their own inventions, innovation exploded. The result has been one of the best returns on investment in government history. Since 1996, university research has added nearly $2 trillion to U.S. industrial output, supported 6.5 million jobs, and launched more than 19,000 startups. Those companies pay…
