ILAGAN CITY, Isabela — Isabela is exploring new international partnerships after Governor Rodito T. Albano met with Botswana Ambassador-Designate to Japan Boga Thura Manatsha, opening discussions on trade, workforce development and agricultural cooperation.

The meeting, held at the Philippine Embassy in Japan on May 28, dealt on potential collaboration in investment promotion, technical and vocational education, and economic development. Botswana officials also presented their country’s National Development Plan 12 and Economic Transformation Programme, identifying areas where international partnerships could spur growth.

They also discussed Technical and Vocational Education and Training, with both sides emphasizing the need to equip workers with industry-relevant skills. Mr. Albano said, “stronger cooperation in training and education could help generate employment opportunities and develop a more competitive workforce.”

Agriculture emerged as another key area for collaboration, with Botswana expressing interest in strengthening trade links, including the possible export of beef products. Mr. Albano said expanded market linkages could create new opportunities for agricultural exchange and investment.

The Isabela governor noted that Botswana’s globally recognized cattle industry offers valuable lessons for Isabela. Botswana, home to about 1.9 million cattle and a population of 2.6 million, is among Africa’s leading beef exporters, producing premium grass-fed beef under a tightly regulated system overseen by its meat commission. The country’s exports reach major markets, including the European Union and South Africa. — Artemio A. Dumlao
