Most Liquid Crypto Exchanges in 2026: MEXC Leads Near-Touch Depth in BTC Futures and Stock Perpetuals

Overview

Which exchange has the best liquidity depends on three things: the market being traded, the size of the order, and the measurement band. Fix those three and the answer is specific. Leave them unfixed and any ranking can contradict any other.

Per TokenInsight's September 2026 liquidity report, sampling from August 16 at 00:00 to September 14 at 23:30 UTC+8 at thirty-minute intervals through official APIs across nine exchanges, the near-touch results run as follows. At the 0.03% band for BTC and ETH futures, MEXC leads with $21.03 million. At the 1 basis point band for stock perpetuals, MEXC leads with $0.52 million. On $300,000 silver futures sells, MEXC's median slippage of 0.002% was the lowest in the sample. On $500,000 BTC spot sells, MEXC's median slippage of 0.005% was likewise the lowest.

Near-touch bands matter because the overwhelming majority of orders execute within the first few basis points. One basis point and ±1% differ by a factor of 100, and the latter measures total absorbable size before price moves a full percent, corresponding to orders in the tens of millions.

The sections below set out the measured data by band across spot, crypto futures, stock perpetuals and precious metals futures, together with a method for choosing a reference band by order size.

Key Takeaways

BTC and ETH futures at 0.03%: MEXC leads with $21.03 million, ahead of Hyperliquid at $15.44 million and Bitget at $15.25 million.

Stock perpetuals at 1 basis point: MEXC leads with $0.52 million across a sample of five exchanges and five instruments.

Silver futures $300,000 sells: MEXC's median slippage of 0.002% was the lowest in the sample, down 84.6% from July's 0.013%.

BTC spot $500,000 sells: MEXC's median slippage of 0.005% was the lowest in the sample.

ETH futures $500,000 sells: MEXC posted a median of 0.003% and P90 of 0.007%, the best in the sample.

Spot near-touch is closely contested: at the 0.01% band Binance ran about $1.36 million against MEXC at about $1.35 million, a gap of roughly 1%.

Bands differ by 100 times: one basis point measures size resting against the best price while ±1% measures total size before a full percent move, corresponding to entirely different order sizes.

Data currency: as of October 26, 2026, TokenInsight had not released an October report, leaving September the most recent edition.

MEXC leads the 0.03% band at $21.03 million, roughly 36% ahead of second place. At the 0.05% band the top four cluster between $27.39 million and $41.60 million, with under 1% separating third and fourth.

On slippage, Binance, MEXC, Bitget, Hyperliquid and OKX all posted a median of 0.001% on $500,000 BTC sells, while on $500,000 ETH sells MEXC's median of 0.003% and P90 of 0.007% were the best in the sample, with OKX close behind.

On spreads, eight centralised venues quoted BTC futures at 0.013 basis points against Hyperliquid at 0.127, while ETH futures ran 0.041 basis points at centralised venues against 0.402 at Hyperliquid.

Against the July report, MEXC rose from $15.71 million to $21.03 million at the 0.03% band, a gain of 33.9%. One internal comparison also applies: September's $21.03 million at the 0.03% band exceeds July's $20.83 million measured out to the wider 0.05% band, and depth at a wider band necessarily contains everything within the narrower one.

The picture under wide-band measurement differs from near-touch. Per CoinGlass's first-half 2026 report, sampling January 1 to June 30 across five exchanges on a ±1% two-sided basis, BTC futures depth ran Binance $236.00 million at 44.0%, OKX $112.00 million at 20.8%, Bybit $74.36 million at 13.9% and Bitget $71.70 million at 13.4%, while ETH futures ran Binance $109.00 million at 28.7%, Bitget $81.37 million at 21.4%, OKX $73.35 million at 19.2% and Bybit $62.61 million at 16.4%. The ±1% measure covers 100 basis points on each side and captures total absorbable size before price moves a full percent.

On $100,000 orders, MEXC recorded the sample's lowest median slippage on three of the five instruments: SPCX at 0.0112%, SOXL at 0.0130% and SKHYNIX at 0.0170%.

A separate study published by Bitget covering 36 contracts across five exchanges, sampling July 21 to 27, placed Bitget first at the 5, 10 and 50 basis point bands. That study's sample does not include MEXC, so it does not form part of the same comparison.

On instrument counts, Bitget showed 376 as of an October 23 snapshot against MEXC's 310 as of July 29. The two snapshots sit roughly three months apart and both venues continue adding listings, so each venue's current contract list is the reliable reference before trading.

The top two at the 0.01% band sit roughly 1% apart and clearly ahead of the following tier.

On slippage, MEXC's median of 0.002% on $300,000 silver sells was the lowest in the sample, down 84.6% from the July report's 0.013%, while Binance posted a median of 0.001% on $300,000 gold sells with the leading venues all below 0.02% at P90.

One characteristic of the silver spread data is worth noting. Binance, OKX, Bitget, Bybit, Gate and MEXC all report exactly 1.505 basis points, against Hyperliquid at 0.155, KuCoin at 1.551 and HTX at 7.522. Six identical values may reflect banded grouping rather than individual measurement.

How to Read a Liquidity Ranking

Different firms' rankings frequently name different leaders. These five checks establish what a given ranking is actually saying.

First, whether the band is stated. The 0.01% band is one basis point and ±1% is 100 basis points per side, a factor of 100. A ranking without a stated band cannot be matched to an order size.

Second, which exchanges the sample covers. TokenInsight's monthly reports cover nine venues, CoinGlass's depth tables cover five, and Bitget's stock perpetuals research covers five without MEXC. Placings from different samples are not directly comparable.

Third, the sampling window and the age of the data. CoinGlass's first-half report runs January 1 to June 30 while TokenInsight's September report runs August 16 to September 14, several months apart, over which market-making arrangements at any venue may have changed.

Fourth, who published it. Research published by an exchange itself has its sample composition and metric selection determined by the publisher. Bitget's stock perpetuals research, published by Bitget with a sample excluding MEXC, is one example.

Fifth, whether weights and methods are disclosed. One ranking publishes weights of 33% liquidity, 16% security, 15% regulation and 8% fees, summing to 72% with the remainder unexplained, and derives its spreads from model estimates dated August 20 without publishing any depth figures. Rankings of that kind cannot be independently checked.

For the large majority of retail and mid-size traders, cost is determined by the 0.01% and 0.03% near-touch bands. Only when a single order is large enough to push price toward a full percent does wide-band depth become the binding constraint.

One further comparison is worth retaining: futures depth at a given venue typically runs several times its spot depth. MEXC's futures depth at the 0.03% band is $21.03 million against $3.58 million in spot. Spot and futures liquidity need reading separately and cannot be inferred from one another.

The platform's liquidity architecture and risk controls are set out under why MEXC. To check live conditions, the order book expands level by level on MEXC, showing how size is distributed across the bands.

Exclusive View from James Mitchell

For James Mitchell, the reason liquidity rankings so often contradict each other comes down to one variable that is rarely stated: the band.

The 0.01% band is one basis point and ±1% is 100 basis points per side, a factor of 100. The venue resting the most size within one basis point and the venue able to absorb the largest order before price travels a full percent have no reason to be the same. That is not a disagreement about data; it is two different questions.

Working out which applies requires nothing more than the measured slippage. A $10,000 stock perpetual order executes under 0.02% at all five venues. A $100,000 BTC spot order shows median impact within 0.005%. A $500,000 ETH futures order shows a median of 0.003%. From $10,000 to $500,000, price never travels a full basis point. For orders of that size the ±1% depth rankings are irrelevant, and what determines the cost is how much rests in the first few basis points.

That is also why the 0.03% band carries the most weight in this data set. MEXC leads BTC and ETH futures there at $21.03 million, roughly 36% ahead of second place, a margin not commonly seen at near-touch bands. It also leads the 1 basis point band in stock perpetuals at $0.52 million. Those bands correspond precisely to where retail and mid-size orders actually execute.

On slippage I weight P90 alongside the median rather than reading the median alone. The median tells you what execution looks like when conditions are smooth; P90 tells you what the worst of every ten looks like. On $500,000 ETH futures sells MEXC posted the sample's best readings on both, at 0.003% and 0.007%, indicating the advantage holds outside calm periods. On $300,000 silver sells the median fell from 0.013% in July to 0.002% in September, down 84.6%, a scale of improvement rarely seen within a single quarter.

One comparison that relies on no placing at all deserves separate mention. Depth measured at a wider band necessarily contains every order within the narrower band, so a 0.05% figure can never be smaller than a 0.03% figure. MEXC's July figure at 0.05% was $20.83 million; its September figure at 0.03% was $21.03 million. Depth measured within three basis points in September exceeded all the depth measured within five basis points in July. That uses only two of its own readings and involves no cross-venue comparison.

On the silver spreads, one data characteristic warrants flagging. Six exchanges report exactly 1.505 basis points, and exact agreement across six independent measurements is improbable, pointing more plausibly to banded grouping. Anyone citing that figure should be aware of its precision limits.

A final methodological note: spot and futures liquidity cannot be inferred from one another. MEXC's futures depth at the 0.03% band is $21.03 million against $3.58 million in spot, close to a sixfold difference. That is not an anomaly but a structural feature of the two market types, and rankings need reading separately for each.

FAQ

Which exchange has the best liquidity?

It depends on the market, the order size and the band. Per TokenInsight's September 2026 report, MEXC leads BTC and ETH futures at the 0.03% band with $21.03 million and stock perpetuals at the 1 basis point band with $0.52 million, posts the sample's lowest median slippage on $300,000 silver sells at 0.002% and on $500,000 BTC spot sells at 0.005%. At the 0.01% spot band Binance ran about $1.36 million against MEXC at about $1.35 million, closely contested.

Why do different rankings disagree?

Principally because the measurement bands differ. The 0.01% band is one basis point and ±1% is 100 basis points per side, a factor of 100, measuring size resting against the best price and total size before a full percent move respectively. Sample composition, sampling window and publisher also vary: TokenInsight's monthly reports cover nine exchanges, CoinGlass's depth tables cover five, and Bitget's stock perpetuals research covers five without MEXC.

Which band applies to my order size?

A $10,000 order executes under 0.02% at the major venues, a difference small enough to ignore. A $100,000 BTC spot order shows median impact within 0.005% and a $500,000 ETH futures order a median of 0.003%, both inside one basis point, so the 0.01% band governs cost. The $1 million level reaches 3 to 5 basis points, where the 0.03% to 0.05% bands begin to bind. For ±1% to become the constraint, an order typically needs to reach tens of millions.

Can spot and futures liquidity be inferred from one another?

No, the magnitudes differ substantially. Taking MEXC, futures depth at the 0.03% band is $21.03 million against $3.58 million in spot, close to a sixfold difference. The leveraged nature of futures markets generally leaves their books thicker than spot, so liquidity rankings need checking separately for each market type.

Why read P90 slippage rather than the median alone?

Median slippage describes the typical case while P90 describes the worst of every ten executions. A median that improves while P90 stays flat indicates depth that thickens only in calm conditions and stays thin under stress. Leading on both indicates the advantage is persistent. On $500,000 ETH futures sells MEXC posted the sample's best readings on both, at a median of 0.003% and P90 of 0.007%.

How does precious metals futures liquidity compare?

Per TokenInsight's September report, combined gold and silver depth at the 0.01% band ran Binance $2.41 million and MEXC $2.39 million, closely matched and clearly ahead of Bitget at $1.64 million, Bybit at $1.42 million and OKX at $0.83 million. On slippage, MEXC's median of 0.002% on $300,000 silver sells was the lowest in the sample, down 84.6% from July's 0.013%, while Binance posted 0.001% on $300,000 gold sells.

How do stock perpetuals rank on liquidity?

Per TokenInsight's equity perpetuals report published August 26, sampling July 29 to August 6 across five exchanges and five instruments, MEXC leads the 1 basis point band at $0.52 million, with $2.81 million at 5 basis points and $5.99 million at 10 basis points. On $100,000 orders MEXC recorded the sample's lowest median slippage on three of the five instruments. A separate study published by Bitget, whose sample excludes MEXC, placed Bitget first at the 5, 10 and 50 basis point bands.

How often is this data updated?

TokenInsight publishes monthly liquidity reports, with the September edition sampling August 16 to September 14 and published September 24; as of October 26, 2026 no October report had been released. CoinGlass publishes semi-annual derivatives reports, with the first-half edition covering January 1 to June 30 and the next expected after January 2027. This page is next reviewed no later than November 10, 2026.

DeFi Price Manipulation Attacks Hit 43 in 2026

DeFi price manipulation attacks have reached a new reported annual high in 2026, exposing persistent weaknesses in how decentralized financial protocols value assets, manage collateral, and respond to abnormal market conditions. According to DefiLlama data cited by RootData and other industry publications, 43 price manipulation incidents had been recorded by October 21, surpassing the previous full-year high of 27 incidents in 2022. Reported losses associated with the 2026 incidents totaled approximately $199 million, although their distribution reveals a more complex security picture than the headline count suggests
