The BAL Qatar Foundation multiyear partnership marks a significant injection of private capital into African sports infrastructure and social impact programmes.

The Basketball Africa League (BAL) secured a multiyear collaboration with Qatar Foundation. This makes Qatar Foundation the league’s first Official Community Partner. The partnership supports social impact programmes across Africa. It funds court renovations and gender equality efforts. Investors note this as fresh private capital into sports infrastructure.

Qatar Foundation backs NBA Africa’s goal to build 1,000 courts continent-wide. The deal also covers BAL4HER. This platform advances women in African sports. Qatar Foundation logos appear on all BAL game uniforms. It serves as Presenting Partner for the BAL’s Ubuntu Trophy. The trophy honours players for community impact.

Social Impact Through Sport

Qatar Foundation focuses on education, research, and community development. Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson, highlighted sport’s role. She said it fosters healthier lives and resilient societies. BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall welcomed the tie-up. He noted it boosts youth and community programmes.

The partnership aids BAL4HER Power Hours. These events connect young women to sports executives. They run in each BAL host city. Qatar Sports Investments facilitates the collaboration. It aligns with Qatar’s sport-for-development work in Africa. Efforts emphasise women and girls’ participation.

2026 BAL Season Advances

The 2026 BAL season features 12 teams from 12 countries. They played 42 games in group phases. Venues included Pretoria, South Africa, and Rabat, Morocco. Playoffs and Finals start 22 May in Kigali, Rwanda. They run until 31 May at BK Arena.

Eight teams qualified. They are Petro de Luanda (Angola), Al Ahly (Egypt), RSSB Tigers (Rwanda), Club Africain (Tunisia), Al Ahly Ly (Libya), FUS Rabat (Morocco), ASC Ville de Dakar (Senegal), and Dar City (Tanzania). Opening games pit Al Ahly against ASC Ville de Dakar. RSSB Tigers face FUS Rabat. Tickets are on sale now.

This partnership signals rising investment in African sports. It ties private funds to infrastructure and inclusion. Qatar’s involvement strengthens NBA Africa’s court-building push. Investors should watch playoff outcomes and new funding rounds. They offer entry points into expanding sports ecosystems.

Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC

The post Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson has weighed in on whether the Federal Reserve should make a 25 basis points (bps) Fed rate cut or 50 bps cut. This comes ahead of the Fed decision today at today’s FOMC meeting, with the market pricing in a 25 bps cut. Bitcoin and the broader crypto market are currently trading flat ahead of the rate cut decision. Franklin Templeton CEO Weighs In On Potential FOMC Decision In a CNBC interview, Jenny Johnson said that she expects the Fed to make a 25 bps cut today instead of a 50 bps cut. She acknowledged the jobs data, which suggested that the labor market is weakening. However, she noted that this data is backward-looking, indicating that it doesn’t show the current state of the economy. She alluded to the wage growth, which she remarked is an indication of a robust labor market. She added that retail sales are up and that consumers are still spending, despite inflation being sticky at 3%, which makes a case for why the FOMC should opt against a 50-basis-point Fed rate cut. In line with this, the Franklin Templeton CEO said that she would go with a 25 bps rate cut if she were Jerome Powell. She remarked that the Fed still has the October and December FOMC meetings to make further cuts if the incoming data warrants it. Johnson also asserted that the data show a robust economy. However, she noted that there can’t be an argument for no Fed rate cut since Powell already signaled at Jackson Hole that they were likely to lower interest rates at this meeting due to concerns over a weakening labor market. Notably, her comment comes as experts argue for both sides on why the Fed should make a 25 bps cut or…
