The horror thriller Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is new in theaters. How soon will the second movie adaptation of the blockbuster video game be available to stream at home?
Rated PG-13, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 opened in theaters nationwide on Friday. The official synopsis for the film reads, “One year has passed since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The stories about what transpired there have been twisted into a campy local legend, inspiring the town’s first-ever Fazfest.
Former security guard Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) have kept the truth from Mike’s 11-year-old sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), concerning the fate of her animatronic friends. But when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, it will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades.”
Directed by Emma Tammi, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 also stars Theodus Crane and Matthew Lillard as William Afton, as well as the voices of Freddy Carter, Wayne Knight, Mckenna Grace and Skeet Ulrich.
The first place Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will be available in the home entertainment marketplace is digital streaming via premium video on demand. Generally, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’s studio, Universal Pictures (and its subsidiary Focus Features), releases its films on digital streaming via premium video on demand anywhere from 18 days to a month after they open in theaters.
For example, Universal’s crime comedy Nobody 2 opened in theaters on Aug. 15 and debuted on PVOD 18 on Sept. 2. Likewise, Focus Features’ Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale opened in theaters on Sept. 12 and arrived on PVOD 18 days later, on Sept. 30. However, though, Focus Features’ Bugonia, which opened wide in theaters on Oct. 31, debuted on PVOD about three-and-a-half weeks later, on Nov. 25.
Should Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 follow the same release pattern as the above-named titles, then the film should arrive on PVOD anytime between Dec. 23 and Dec. 30, since new films generally are released on digital on Tuesdays.
New films released on PVOD are generally available on such digital platforms as Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube Movies & TV, and cost anywhere from $19.99 to $29.99 to purchase or $14.99 to $24.99 to rent for 48 hours.
Which Streaming Service Will Get ‘Five Nights At Freddy’s 2’ First?
Since Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is a Universal Pictures release, the film’s Pay 1 window will be on NBC Universal’s Peacock subscription streaming service.
Typically, it takes about seven weeks to three months between the time Universal Pictures (and Focus Features) releases open in theaters and arrive on streaming video on demand on Peacock.
For example, Universal Pictures’ Nobody 2, which opened in theaters on Aug. 15, arrived on Peacock nearly three months later, on Nov. 14.
However, Focus Features’ The Phoenician Scheme, which opened in wide release in theaters on June 6, debuted on Peacock about seven weeks later, on July 25.
More recently, Focus Features’ Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale arrived on Peacock on Nov. 7, roughly seven weeks after opening in theaters on Sept. 12.
If Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 follows the same release pattern, the film should arrive on Peacock anytime between Jan. 23, 2026, and March 6, 2026, since new SVOD releases on Peacock typically arrive on Fridays.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is playing in theaters nationwide.
