Mark Robinson, North Carolina’s former lieutenant governor and failed GOP gubernatorial candidate, came clean this week over the allegations that he had made a series of shocking online comments, including describing himself as a “Black Nazi” and admitting to enjoying transgender pornography, despite his fierce anti-trans and homophobic rhetoric.

Appearing on the “After The Call” podcast in an interview published on Thursday, Robinson admitted that, regarding reports about his online comments, “there’s some truth to it,” but said he lied in an effort to protect President Donald Trump in the lead up to the 2024 election.

“I certainly don’t want to be the person that costs the president of the United States the election,” Robinson said, according to a report Saturday from The Daily Beast.

“Didn’t want to cost anyone else their election. I guess there may be some people that feel, like, that I did. If I had to ignore the truth at that moment for their expediency, I felt like it was the right thing to do.”

The bombshell CNN report that exposed Robinson for his online behavior revealed that between 2008 and 2012, Robinson had expressed support for slavery and admitted to spying on women in public showers when he was a teenager, an experience he said he continued to fantasize about as an adult. He also voiced support for Adolf Hitler.

Robinson initially denied the reports, and at one point claimed he was being sabotaged by artificial intelligence.

And yet, despite the controversy, a number of MAGA followers continued to back Robinson’s ill-fated gubernatorial campaign. He would end up losing his race to Democratic North Carolina gubernatorial candidate Josh Stein by more than 14%, and despite Trump having handily defeated former Vice President Kamala Harris in the state.
