President Donald Trump faced backlash after he said he didn't want "a stupid person being president."
While speaking at a Thursday Cabinet meeting, the president attacked California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) for admitting he had dyslexia in a recent interview.
"I don't want a person with mental disability to be my president," Trump said. "I don't want a stupid person being president."
Commenters online immediately scorned the president for the remarks.
"Hey, Trump. Dyslexia is not a 'mental disability.' This man has no bar to how low he will go," a commenter named Susan noted.
"I can't believe Trump is on my TV telling me he doesn't want Gavin Newsom as a president because he's got a learning disability yet this [guy] has dementia, has an education of a third grader, and his IQ is may be a 74," another commenter complained.
Others suggested that Trump met the qualifications for a "stupid" president.
"Too late," Democracy Badger lamented.
"Again: Irony got slaughtered in bright daylight here," one comment pointed out.
"Hide the mirrors!" Kenny wrote on X.
