CoinEx Shutdown: What Users Need to Do Before Withdrawals Close

CoinEx has announced that it will gradually shut down after nine years of operation, citing prolonged weak market conditions, declining trading activity and liquidity, and rising compliance costs.

The closure will happen in stages rather than immediately. New registrations stop first, followed by non-spot services, spot trading and finally withdrawals. For users, however, the most important date may not be the final platform closure. It is the earlier deadline after which CoinEx can begin processing non-USDT assets on users’ behalf.

Anyone holding assets on CoinEx should therefore review their account, close active positions and withdraw supported tokens before the relevant deadlines instead of waiting until the final day.

CoinEx Shutdown Timeline and Key Deadlines

CoinEx will begin restricting services on September 15, 2026. New account registrations and several promotional services will end, while futures trading will enter reduce-only mode. Users will no longer be able to open new positions in products including margin trading, crypto loans, earn products, staking and automated trading strategies.

On September 22, CoinEx will stop all non-spot services. Existing futures positions that remain open may be settled by the platform. Deposits will also be suspended for most assets, although CET deposits are scheduled to remain available until the following stage.

Spot trading will stop on September 29 at 02:00 UTC, or 10:00 UTC+8. CoinEx will then begin processing assets other than USDT.

The final withdrawal deadline is December 22, 2026, at 02:00 UTC. After that time, CoinEx will close its platform and transfer eligible unclaimed USDT balances to an independent custody arrangement.

Users will have until August 22, 2028, to apply for assets held under that custody arrangement.

Why September 29 Matters More Than the Final Closure Date

The December withdrawal deadline may initially appear to give users several months to act. However, September 29 is the more important date for anyone who wants to retain control over the specific assets they currently hold.

CoinEx says that liquid non-USDT assets may be sold through external markets and converted into USDT after spot trading ends. Users would receive the net proceeds rather than the original tokens. Assets without sufficient liquidity may no longer receive wallet, custody or redemption support.

This means users who wait until after September 29 could lose the option to withdraw certain assets in their original form. They may also face execution risk if tokens must be sold under weak market conditions or through markets with limited liquidity.

CET will be handled separately. CoinEx plans to repurchase CET at a fixed price of 0.005 USDT per token, with remaining CET balances automatically processed after the deadline.

MEXC’s view is that the practical exit deadline is September 29, not December 22. The later date is mainly relevant to withdrawing balances that remain available after asset processing has taken place. Users who care about preserving the form of their holdings should act before spot trading closes.

What Happens to Funds Left on CoinEx?

After December 22, remaining USDT eligible for transfer will enter an independent custody arrangement. This does not mean users can leave funds there without cost.

CoinEx states that a monthly custody fee equal to 5% of the balance recorded at the end of the withdrawal period will apply. Because the charge is calculated monthly, delaying a claim could materially reduce the amount eventually recovered.

The custody claim window will remain open until August 22, 2028. Any user relying on this process may need to complete identity checks and provide account information before receiving funds.

This arrangement should be treated as a recovery option, not a substitute for withdrawing on time. It introduces additional fees, administrative steps and dependence on a separate claims process.

CoinEx Smart Chain and OneSwap Will Also Stop Operating

The shutdown extends beyond the centralized trading platform. CoinEx Smart Chain and OneSwap are scheduled to cease operations on September 29.

Bridge nodes will be closed, and users who hold bridged or ecosystem assets should complete any necessary redemptions before service ends. Waiting until the chain or bridge becomes inactive could make asset recovery substantially more difficult.

CoinEx says that CoinEx Wallet and CoinEx Vault are operated independently and are not included in the shutdown. Users should still verify which product holds their assets and avoid assuming that balances in different services follow the same withdrawal schedule.

What CoinEx Users Should Check Now

Users should first identify whether they have funds in spot accounts, futures, margin products, lending services, staking products or automated strategies. Positions involving non-spot services need attention before September 22.

The next step is to check whether each token can be withdrawn directly. Small-cap or illiquid assets deserve particular attention because they face the greatest risk of losing wallet or redemption support after spot trading closes.

Users should also verify withdrawal networks carefully. Sending assets through an incompatible network can result in permanent loss, and service congestion may increase as the deadlines approach.

Finally, users should keep their own withdrawal records, transaction hashes and account statements. These records may be useful if a transfer is delayed or if a later custody claim becomes necessary.

FAQ

Is CoinEx shutting down completely?

Yes. CoinEx has announced a staged closure of its trading platform. Spot trading is scheduled to end on September 29, 2026, and withdrawals will close on December 22, 2026.

What is the CoinEx withdrawal deadline?

The final withdrawal deadline is December 22, 2026, at 02:00 UTC. Users holding non-USDT assets should consider withdrawing before September 29, when spot trading ends and asset processing begins.

What happens to non-USDT assets after September 29?

CoinEx may sell liquid assets through external markets and convert the net proceeds into USDT. Illiquid assets may lose wallet, custody or redemption support, so users may not receive the original tokens back.

What happens if I leave USDT on CoinEx?

Eligible USDT remaining after withdrawals close may be transferred to an independent custody arrangement. A monthly custody fee of 5% of the balance recorded at the end of the withdrawal period will apply, and claims must be submitted by August 22, 2028.

Are CoinEx Wallet and CoinEx Vault closing?

According to the announcement, CoinEx Wallet and CoinEx Vault are independently operated and are not affected by the trading platform shutdown.

Risk Warning

Platform closures can create withdrawal congestion, network interruptions and phishing activity. Users should access CoinEx only through verified official channels, confirm withdrawal addresses and networks, and avoid waiting until the final deadline. SEC Innovation Exemption: How Tokenized Stocks Can Trade Onchain

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission introduced a five-year Innovation Exemption on September 17, 2026, creating a temporary regulatory pathway for certain tokenized U.S. stocks to trade onchain. Under the framework, qualifying Tokenized Securities Venues can facilitate trading in tokenized National Market System stocks through permissioned automated market makers and liquidity pools without being treated as registered exchanges under the usual definition, provided they comply with a detailed set of conditions. Liquidity providers participating in those pools can also receive limited conditional relief from the statutory definition of a dealer

U.S. Stock Perps Are Coming: Why Kalshi and Coinbase Want In

The U.S. derivatives market may be approaching an important structural shift as Kalshi and Coinbase Derivatives both move to introduce perpetual futures linked to individual U.S. stocks. The proposals matter because perpetual futures are no longer being treated only as a crypto-native trading product. Instead, two major U.S. platforms are attempting to adapt the format to equities such as Apple, Nvidia and Tesla, potentially bringing continuous leveraged stock-price exposure into a regulated domestic market.
