The two top sportsbooks in the US have each entered the emerging prediction market space, with DraftKings and FanDuel each launching new products at the end of 2025. DraftKings got the action started by launching DraftKings Predictions on December 19, and a few days later, Fanduel Predicts followed suit.
DraftKings and FanDuel’s prediction market apps give sports fans another way to profit from their sports knowledge in addition to offering trades on the stock market, politics, awards, commodities and more. Instead of placing traditional bets with odds set by sportsbooks, these platforms allow users to trade event-based contracts whose prices fluctuate based on market demand.
But if your goal is to actually earn money making predictions on sports, the question remains: are these platforms worth your time?
One of the biggest advantages of prediction markets for sports bettors is the absence of a traditional sportsbook vig. Since users are trading contracts with each other rather than betting against the house, the market determines the price. For experienced sports analysts, this can occasionally create value opportunities when the public misprices a particular outcome.
Another strength is flexibility. Contracts remain tradable throughout an event, meaning users can exit positions before the game ends if the probability of their prediction changes. This creates a dynamic trading environment that can resemble live betting but with more control over when to lock in profits or cut losses.
DraftKings Predictions in particular benefits from the company’s long history in sports gaming. Its mobile app is polished, intuitive and stable, which makes browsing markets and placing trades easy for new users.
Both platforms also offer markets across a wide range of sports, from mainstream leagues like football and basketball to niche competitions such as darts, rugby, or table tennis.
Despite the promise of prediction markets, both FanDuel and DraftKings currently offer fairly limited sports betting functionality compared to traditional sportsbooks.
DraftKings Predictions focuses mostly on game results, spreads and totals and does not currently include markets for player statistics. For many sports bettors, player props are one of the most appealing ways to leverage research and statistical models, so their absence limits potential strategy.
FanDuel Predicts offers slightly more variety, including some player and team prop-style markets, but still lacks common sportsbook features like parlays. Some prediction platforms allow users to combine multiple predictions for larger payouts, but that option is not available on FanDuel Predicts.
Another drawback is the inconsistent availability of sports markets depending on the user’s location. While prediction markets themselves are legal across the United States, sports-related contracts are restricted in many states, which can significantly reduce the number of opportunities available.
Unlike sportsbooks that compete aggressively for new customers, prediction markets generally offer very few promotions.
FanDuel Predicts currently does not offer a welcome bonus or meaningful rewards program. DraftKings Predictions provides a small first-trade match and a referral bonus, but the incentives are modest compared to sportsbook promotions.
For users trying to maximize profit opportunities, the lack of bonuses reduces the overall value of these platforms.
FanDuel Predicts and DraftKings Predictions represent an interesting evolution in sports wagering. The peer-driven pricing model and ability to trade contracts mid-event can create unique opportunities for knowledgeable sports fans.
However, the platforms still feel like early-stage products. Limited betting options, minimal promotions and state-by-state restrictions mean they currently offer fewer opportunities than traditional sportsbooks or even pick’em fantasy apps.
Don’t expect this to be the standard long-term, though. DraftKings and FanDuel have been jockeying for position in the sports gaming industry for over a decade and continue to do so, whether it’s launching prediction market apps within days of each other or one-upping one another’s loyalty program.
For now, prediction markets from FanDuel and DraftKings may be worth exploring if you’re curious about the format or enjoy trading-style betting. They’re especially useful for sports
bettors who live in a state in which sports betting hasn’t yet been legalized. But if your primary goal is consistently earning money from sports predictions, most bettors will likely find more tools, markets and promotions on established sportsbooks if they reside in a legal sports betting state.
