Claude Code Adds Agent View for Simplified Session Management

Claude Code has introduced a new feature called Agent View, designed to streamline the management of multiple concurrent sessions for developers. Available as a Research Preview starting May 11, 2026, this tool aims to address the inefficiency of managing numerous terminal tabs or tmux grids when running agents in parallel.

With Agent View, users can oversee all their Claude Code sessions in one place. The interface allows developers to launch new agents, send them to the background, and easily identify which sessions require attention, which are actively running, and which have completed. This centralized approach reduces cognitive load and improves workflow efficiency.

How Agent View Works

The new feature enhances session visualization and interaction directly from the command line interface (CLI). Developers can access Agent View by pressing the left arrow key from any session or running claude agents in the terminal. Each session is displayed in a row, showing its status, the last response, and the time of the last interaction.

The tool also includes a "peek and reply" functionality. Users can quickly check a session's last turn and respond inline if needed, without leaving the interface. For more in-depth engagement, they can press enter to view the full session transcript.

Additionally, sessions can be sent to the background with simple commands like /bg or initiated directly in the background using claude --bg [task]. This flexibility allows developers to multitask effectively without cluttering their workspace.

Practical Applications

Early adopters of Agent View have identified several use cases:

  • Scaling concurrent sessions: Developers can run multiple tasks simultaneously, such as dispatching ideas paired with specific skills, and return to review a batch of pull requests.
  • Managing long-running agents: Tasks like dashboard updates or looping jobs display their next run time directly in the list.
  • Seamless session switching: Developers can navigate between sessions to start related tasks or answer quick queries without losing context.
  • Tracking completed work: Status indicators and titles make it easy to scan which sessions have produced results, such as a pull request.

Availability

Agent View is now available on Claude Code's Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise, and API plans. Developers can opt-in by running claude agents, with standard rate limits applying. For more detailed instructions, users can consult the official documentation.

This update underscores Claude Code's commitment to improving developer productivity by simplifying complex workflows. As more users adopt Agent View, its impact on streamlining collaborative coding processes will likely grow.
