Sydney Sweeney hops from her controversial American Eagle ad to the big screen this weekend with Americana. When will the film be available to stream at home?
Written and directed by Tony Tost, Americana is a crime comedy about how various parties try to obtain a rare Native American artifact. Rated R, Americana opens in limited release in theaters on Friday.
The summary for Americana reads, “After the artifact falls onto the black market, a shy waitress with big dreams (Sydney Sweeney) teams up with a lovelorn military veteran (Paul Walter Hauser) to gain possession of it, putting themselves of the crosshairs of a ruthless criminal (Eric Dane) working on behalf of a Western antiquities dealer (Simon Rex).
“Bloodshed ensues when others join the battle, including the leader of an indigenous group (Zahn McClarnon) and a desperate woman fleeing her mysterious past (Halsey).”
Currently, the only place you can see Americana is in theaters, so check your local listings for showtimes.
Once Americana hits the home entertainment market, the first place it will play is on digital streaming via premium video on demand. Typically, new film releases from Lionsgate — the studio behind Americana — have about a three- to six-week window between the time its films open in theaters and debut on PVOD.
For example, Lionsgate thriller Flight Risk debuted on PVOD on Feb. 14, about three weeks after it opened in theaters on Jan. 24. The Unbreakable Boy, however, arrived on PVOD on April 4, about six weeks after it opened in theaters on Feb. 21.
More recently, however, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina arrived on PVOD on July 1, about three and a half weeks after it opened in theaters on June 6.
If Americana follows the same pattern, it should arrive on PVOD anytime between Sept. 2 and Sept. 16, since new film releases typically debut on digital streaming on Tuesdays.
Americana will likely be available to purchase or rent on a variety of digital platforms, including Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube. Prime Video already has Americana up for pre-order for $14.99, which is also the film’s purchase price. Since digital rentals are typically $5 less than purchase prices, Americana should be available to rent on PVOD for 48 hours for $9.99.

Lionsgate has a deal with STARZ to stream the studio’s films first, so it will be the first platform to offer Americana when it arrives on streaming video on demand.
Typically, it takes four to four and a half months for Lionsgate films to arrive on STARZ after they open in theaters. Flight Risk, for example, arrived on SVOD on STARZ on May 24, four months after it opened in theaters on Jan. 24.
Sometimes, however, the wait can be longer. Lionsgate’s adaptation of the video game Borderlands debuted on SVOD on STARZ on Dec. 25, 2024, about four and a half months after its premiere in theaters on Aug. 9, 2024.
Should Americana follow the same pattern, then the film should arrive on SVOD on STARZ anytime between Dec. 19 and Jan. 2, 2026, since new film releases on PVOD typically arrive on the platform on Fridays.
