Bitget requires Level 1 identity verification, a government ID plus a facial check, before an account can deposit, trade or withdraw, a rule phased in between 1 September 2023 and 20 July 2024.
Level 1 unlocks a 24-hour withdrawal limit of 3M USDT at VIP 0, and Bitget's KYC FAQ says reviews take up to 60 minutes.
Level 2, a proof of address, is only requested for specific products such as the Bitget Card, so most users never see it.

Key Takeaways
  • Bitget has required Level 1 verification to deposit and trade since 1 January 2024, and for every withdrawal since 20 July 2024.
  • Level 1 is one government-issued ID plus a facial check, and Bitget's KYC FAQ puts the review at up to 60 minutes.
  • Level 2 adds a proof of address for products such as the Bitget Card and does not raise your withdrawal limit.
  • Both your fees and your 24-hour withdrawal limit follow VIP level rather than verification level.
  • One identity verifies one Bitget account, sub-accounts inherit it, and you get 5 attempts in 24 hours.
  • MEXC runs two individual levels, Primary and Advanced, but is not available to residents of the United States, the United Kingdom or the EEA.

Search for Bitget's KYC rules and you will find incompatible numbers, including an unverified allowance of 1,000 USD a day and a Level 2 cap of 100,000 USD, neither of which matches what Bitget's own pages say today.
Several of those figures are out of date, and a few describe a platform that stopped existing in July 2024, when Bitget closed the last door for unverified accounts.
Every Bitget figure below comes from its Support Center, its Terms of Use or its Fee Center, with the retrieval date stated, so that each number can be checked against the page it came from.

Does Bitget Require KYC? Yes, and Here Is Since When

Yes, for every core service.
Bitget announced mandatory verification on 21 August 2023, requiring new sign-ups to complete Level 1 from 1 September 2023 and giving existing accounts until 1 October 2023, after which unverified users could only withdraw, cancel orders and close positions, as The Block reported at the time.
Bitget's verification FAQ then set 1 January 2024 as the date from which identity verification is required to access core services such as crypto deposits and trading.
The last step came in a Support Center notice dated 4 June 2024: effective 20 July 2024, users who have not completed Level 1 cannot withdraw, including on-chain withdrawals and internal transfers.
Since that date an unverified account cannot deposit, trade or withdraw, and Bitget's own step-by-step guide lists those three things as what verification enables.

Bitget Verification Levels Compared

Bitget's public flow has one mandatory level and one conditional one, with a separate path for companies.

Data verified as of 9 September 2026 against Bitget's Support Center pages "Common Questions About Individual Verification" (updated 26 April 2024), "How to Complete KYC for My Bitget Account" (updated 30 April 2024), "Updates on identity verification rules" (4 June 2024), "Bitget Card Eligibility and Application Process" and "What Document Is Required to Submit KYB", and the 24h withdrawal limit column of Bitget's Fee Center.

What Bitget Level 1 Unlocks: Deposits, Trading and 3M USDT a Day

Bitget's FAQ lists four things that verification opens: crypto and fiat deposits, P2P trading, on-chain withdrawals and stronger account security, and its app guide adds trading to that list.
The withdrawal ceiling that comes with Level 1 is set by VIP level rather than by verification level: 3M USDT in 24 hours at VIP 0, then 4M, 6M, 8M, 10M, 12M, 15M and 20M USDT at VIP 1 to VIP 7.
That structure is the opposite of exchanges that tie limits to how many documents you upload, and it means the first document gets an ordinary Bitget user to a ceiling most will never reach.
Verification does not touch your fees either: Bitget's fee page prices spot at 0.10% and perpetuals at 0.020% maker and 0.060% taker by VIP level, with no KYC column anywhere in the schedule.

Documents Bitget Accepts

Level 1 starts with two choices, your country or region of residence and the country or region that issued your document, and Bitget's guide notes that accepted ID types vary by country, so the dropdown you see is the authoritative list for your case.
Your name must match the document exactly, and Bitget's example is specific: a person named John Michael Doe enters "John Michael" as the first name and "Doe" as the last name.
Document photos must be clear and uncropped, taken with the camera rather than uploaded from elsewhere, and the facial check wants a plain white background, good lighting without backlight, no hats or glasses, and your face centred while you follow the prompts to turn or blink.
Level 2 is a proof of address dated within the last three months, and Bitget's Card eligibility page names bank statements and utility bills such as water, electricity, internet and gas as the most commonly accepted documents.
The name on the proof of address must be identical to the name on your Level 1 document, so a household bill in a partner's name will be rejected.
The same page adds a detail few guides mention: whether Level 2 is required at all can depend on the document you used for Level 1, and Bitget recommends a local government-issued ID such as a national identity card or driving licence rather than a passport.

How Long Bitget KYC Takes and Why It Fails

Bitget gives three answers on three pages, and the honest reading is to plan for the longest of them.
The KYC FAQ, updated 26 April 2024, says reviews typically take up to 60 minutes and asks you to submit a ticket with your UID if it takes longer.
The app guide, updated 30 April 2024, says processing typically takes 1 business day, and its ticket threshold is 1 business day as well.
The withdrawal troubleshooting page says withdrawals stay restricted while an application is pending, which it says typically takes 24 hours.
If your submission is rejected you receive an email or dashboard notice stating the reason, and you can correct the problem and resubmit up to 5 times in 24 hours before you have to wait another day.
Judging by the rules Bitget publishes, the avoidable failures are a name typed differently from the document, a cropped or blurred photo, a face check done in poor light or with glasses on, and an ID whose type is not accepted for the issuing country you selected.

Rules Most Guides Miss

One identity verifies one Bitget account, and submitting the same ID for a second account leads to rejection; Bitget's Terms of Use say the same thing in contract language, that an individual may not hold more than one account.
Sub-accounts cannot be verified separately and inherit the main account's permissions once it is verified, so if you need several trading accounts the supported route is sub-accounts under one verified main account.
If your verified name displays incorrectly you can use the Edit Name function on the verification page with supporting documents, rather than resetting the whole verification.
A full reset is only allowed in three cases: the account is deleted, your nationality has changed, or a fiat deposit or withdrawal failed because your SEPA account name does not match your Bitget identity.
A reset makes the account temporarily unverified, blocks deposits and trading until the new verification completes, and typically takes 1 business day.
Bitget's Terms also prohibit buying or selling KYC information in any form and prohibit anonymising proxies and VPNs used to reach the platform from a prohibited country, and both breaches can end the account.

What You Can Do on Bitget Without KYC

Less than most guides suggest: since 20 July 2024, nothing that moves money.
An unverified account cannot deposit crypto or trade, per the 1 January 2024 rule, and cannot withdraw on-chain or transfer internally, per the 20 July 2024 notice.
One footnote on Bitget's fee page, retrieved 9 September 2026, still states that VIP users who have not completed identity verification are limited to 20,000 USDT in 24-hour withdrawals, but the later notice is explicit that unverified accounts cannot withdraw, so treat the footnote as a leftover rather than an allowance.
Bitget Wallet is a separate self-custody product, and its own guide states that creating and using the wallet does not require KYC, though any fiat purchase inside it runs through third-party providers with their own checks.
That is a different product with different risks, not a way around the exchange's rules, and the exchange itself has no unverified tier left to offer.

Bitget KYC vs MEXC KYC

Before the comparison, one sentence on who can act on it: Bitget's Terms of Use list the United States, Canada and Japan among its prohibited countries, MEXC does not serve residents of the United States, the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, and neither platform holds a MiCA authorisation.
If you live in one of those places, read this section as a reference rather than a recommendation.
MEXC's official KYC FAQ, updated 2 June 2026, sets out two individual levels, Primary and Advanced, and no separate proof-of-address tier for retail users.

Data verified as of 9 September 2026 against Bitget's Support Center pages dated 26 April 2024, 30 April 2024 and 4 June 2024 and its Fee Center, and MEXC's support page "MEXC KYC FAQ" (updated 2 June 2026).
The structural difference is what the ceiling is denominated in and what raises it.
Bitget's limit is fixed in USDT and climbs with VIP level, so a 3M USDT ceiling means the same thing on any day, while MEXC's 80 BTC and 200 BTC ceilings rise and fall with the Bitcoin price and climb with a second document.
MEXC's Primary level already opens spot and futures trading, crypto deposits and P2P, and MEXC allows one identity to verify up to two accounts against one on Bitget.
On unverified use, MEXC's FAQ states that not completing verification may affect access to deposits, withdrawals and trading depending on your region, and it describes a return route for funds that land in an unverified account and a withdrawal appeal route that leaves the account with withdrawal and position-closing permissions only.
If your decision comes down to which ladder fits your document situation and your region, compare the two tiers before you upload anything.

Watch Out for Fake KYC Support

Searches for Bitget KYC attract impersonators, because a person mid-verification is expecting to hand over documents.
Bitget collects verification documents on the Identity Verification page inside your logged-in account, on the website or in the app.
A request to send your ID, selfie or proof of address by email, chat, Telegram, WhatsApp or a social media reply is a scam, whatever logo it carries, and Bitget publishes an official-channel verification page for checking whether a contact is real.
Offers to sell "verified" exchange accounts breach Bitget's Terms, which prohibit buying or selling KYC information, and a bought account is registered in someone else's name rather than yours.
If a message offers to speed up your review for a fee, or asks for your login, two-factor code or fund password to "complete KYC", close it and use the ticket route in Bitget's FAQ instead.

The MEXC View

We work for MEXC, and this section is where we say what we think rather than what the tables say.
For an individual trader, MEXC's two-level structure and two-accounts-per-identity rule make it the lighter climb, and its Primary level opens the same core products that Bitget's Level 1 does, with a quoted review time of about 15 minutes.
Here is where Bitget is ahead.
Bitget's one-level design means one document takes you to a 3M USDT daily ceiling that does not move with the Bitcoin price, and its FAQ commits to a 60-minute review with a named escalation route if that is missed.
Bitget spells out its reset rules, its name-correction tool, its attempt allowance and its proof-of-address requirements in unusual detail, and MEXC's KYC FAQ covers review times and attempt limits rather than the document list.
Bitget also gives a misclassified Japan resident a defined way to contest the tag, by completing Level 2 verification before the cutoff.
MEXC's own limits belong in this section too: it is not available to residents of the United States, the United Kingdom or the EEA, its apps are not in Japanese app stores, and it appears on Japan's Financial Services Agency list of unregistered operators, so we do not recommend that residents of Japan open an account.
Our full MEXC vs Bitget comparison covers fees, leverage and listings alongside verification, our MEXC review, including the catch is candid about what MEXC lacks, and the rules we apply to every number are set out in how we verify exchange data.

Who Should Verify on Bitget, and Who Shouldn't

Verify on Bitget if you want one document to settle the matter, a USDT-denominated ceiling and a written review time, and you can accept that the account is the only one your identity can hold there.
Look elsewhere if you need two verified accounts under one identity, or if you would rather climb a two-level ladder whose second step raises the ceiling rather than unlocking a card.
Look elsewhere too if you are in a place Bitget does not serve, and if that place is one where MEXC is also unavailable, choose a platform licensed where you live.
If you are consolidating away from Bitget after verifying, our guide to how to transfer crypto from Bitget without losing it on the wrong network walks through the withdrawal step, and our Bitget alternatives compared for 2026 puts the platforms side by side.

Where each platform is available

Bitget's Terms of Use, last updated 17 August 2026, name the United States and its territories, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Austria, France and Germany among its prohibited countries, alongside sanctioned jurisdictions.
The United Kingdom is not on that list, but UK readers who want local protections should confirm their access with Bitget and consider a platform on the FCA register.
For the European Economic Area, Bitget's own statement of 2 July 2026 says Bitget EU has applied to Austria's FMA under MiCAR and will provide services in the EU only once authorised, and on 9 September 2026 that page still described the authorisation as pending.
MEXC is not available to residents of the United States, the United Kingdom or the EEA, it appears on ESMA's list of non-compliant entities, and it is offboarding Netherlands customers by 31 October 2026 with final offboarding on 16 November 2026.
EEA readers should check any provider against ESMA's statement on the end of the MiCA transitional periods, which points to the register of authorised providers.
Japan is where verification and availability meet: Bitget stopped accepting Japan-resident registrations on 3 August 2026, will move accounts classified as Japan-resident to close-only mode from 1 November 2026 at 11:00 JST, and will close remaining positions after 31 December 2026, with withdrawals staying open.
MEXC's apps are not available in Japanese app stores and MEXC appears on the Financial Services Agency's list of unregistered operators, so we do not recommend that residents of Japan open an MEXC account, and Japan-resident Bitget users should plan around the close-only date rather than the year-end deadline.
Our page on where MEXC is and is not available lists the full set of restricted regions, and our guide to where to buy crypto by region covers licensed options market by market.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Bitget require KYC?
Yes, since 1 January 2024 Level 1 verification is required to deposit and trade, and since 20 July 2024 it is required for all withdrawals, including internal transfers.
Level 1 means a government ID plus a facial check.

Can I use Bitget without KYC?
Not for anything that moves money: an unverified account cannot deposit, trade or withdraw.
Bitget's self-custody Bitget Wallet is a separate product that its own guide says needs no KYC.

What documents does Bitget KYC need?
Level 1 needs one government-issued ID, with accepted types shown after you pick your residence and issuing country, plus photos and a facial check.
Level 2 needs a proof of address dated within three months in the same name.

How long does Bitget KYC take?
Bitget's KYC FAQ says up to 60 minutes, while its app guide says about 1 business day.
If the review passes the quoted time, submit a ticket with your UID.

What is the difference between Bitget Level 1 and Level 2?
Level 1 verifies your identity and unlocks deposits, trading and withdrawals.
Level 2 adds a proof of address and is only requested for products such as the Bitget Card and some fiat rails; it does not raise your withdrawal limit.

Why was my Bitget KYC rejected?
Bitget emails the reason; the rules it publishes point to a name that does not match the document, cropped or blurred photos, a poor facial check, or an ID type not accepted for your issuing country.
You get 5 attempts per 24 hours.

Can I verify a sub-account or a second Bitget account?
No, one identity verifies one Bitget account, and sub-accounts inherit the main account's verification instead of completing their own.
Using the same ID on a second account leads to rejection.

What happens to Bitget KYC if I change nationality or move country?
A change of nationality is one of the three cases in which Bitget allows a verification reset, which takes about 1 business day and blocks deposits and trading meanwhile.
Moving to a prohibited country can end access under Bitget's Terms.

Does my KYC level change my Bitget fees or withdrawal limit?
No, fees are set by VIP level, and so is the 24-hour withdrawal limit, from 3M USDT at VIP 0 to 20M USDT at VIP 7.
Verification is the gate, not the dial.
