Kraken's internal checks on a crypto withdrawal take up to 20 minutes across two stages before the transaction reaches the network, while cash withdrawals range from near-instant to five business days, and separate holds of 24 hours, 72 hours or 7 days can delay either one.
Key Takeaways
Kraken's own checks take up to about 10 minutes in Initiated and 10 more in Pending before a withdrawal is broadcast.
Cancellation works only while the status reads Initiated or Pending, and Kraken says a cancellation during Pending is not guaranteed.
Kraken documents six separate holds, and states that its support team cannot bypass the time-based ones.
One instant purchase funded through Plaid locks that amount from withdrawal for 7 days; a first card purchase locks it for 72 hours.
Cash withdrawals run from near-instant on RTP, Instant SEPA, Faster Payments and Osko to five business days on SWIFT.
Three delisting withdrawal deadlines remain in 2026, on 25 September, 6 November and 10 December, after which Kraken converts what is left.
When a withdrawal sits still, the instinct is to blame network congestion.
Kraken publishes short internal processing times, so a delay measured in days usually points somewhere else.
The platform publishes how long its own checks take, and the figure is short: up to 10 minutes in Initiated and up to 10 minutes in Pending, then the transaction goes to the network.
When a withdrawal stalls for hours or days instead, the cause is usually one of the six holds below, most of them triggered by how you funded the account rather than by what you are sending.
The most expensive part is that Kraken's support team cannot lift the time-based ones, so knowing which hold you are in tells you exactly how long you are waiting.
This guide sets out each stage, each hold, each cash rail and each published limit, with the update date of the Kraken page behind every figure.
Kraken's withdrawal status page, last updated 6 June 2025, sets out four normal stages and one detour.
Initiated means the request is queued for security and compliance checks, and Kraken puts this stage at up to 10 minutes.
Pending means those checks are running, also up to 10 minutes.
Sending means the transaction has been broadcast to the network and a transaction ID exists, which is the point at which the delay stops being Kraken's and starts being the blockchain's.
Success appears after the network returns one confirmation, and Kraken notes that the receiving platform may require more confirmations before crediting you.
On hold is the detour: a manual review has replaced the automated path, and Kraken contacts you by email if it needs anything from you.
Failed means the transaction did not go through, with the funds returned to your balance and a reason shown in the withdrawal history.
Cancellation only works during the first two stages, and Kraken warns that a request submitted during Pending may not stop the withdrawal.
Kraken publishes its hold rules across two pages, one on withdrawal holds updated 5 September 2026 and one on withdrawal problems updated 19 August 2026.
Hold | What triggers it | How long it lasts | What it blocks |
First card or digital wallet purchase | A first purchase with a newly added debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay | 72 hours | Withdrawal of an amount equal to that purchase, in crypto or cash |
PayPal deposit | Every PayPal deposit, not only the first one | 72 hours | Withdrawal of the deposited amount |
ACH purchase funded via Plaid | An instant purchase paid for from a Plaid-linked bank account | 7 days | Withdrawal of the purchased amount |
Password change | Changing your account password | 24 hours | Withdrawals to new addresses, or to addresses edited within the last 24 hours |
Open orders or margin positions | Funds committed to open orders or held as margin collateral | Until you cancel the order or close the position | The committed portion of the balance only |
Global Settings Lock | You switch it on yourself with a timer of one day or more | The timer you chose | Withdrawals and settings changes until it expires or a Master Key is used |
Data verified as of 9 September 2026 against Kraken's withdrawal hold, withdrawal problem and Global Settings Lock support pages.
Four points are worth pulling out of that table.
Holds attach to an amount, not to your whole balance, so a 200 USD card purchase does not freeze a 20,000 USD account.
Kraken states that trading is unaffected while a hold is in place; only withdrawing is blocked.
Kraken states that its support team cannot bypass time-based holds, so a ticket can confirm the timer but not shorten it.
Other instant purchase methods can also attract a 72-hour hold depending on your account history, so the absence of a hold on one deposit does not guarantee the next one is clear.
Kraken's cash withdrawal page, updated 3 September 2026, publishes a minimum, a fee and a processing time for every rail.
Currency and method | Minimum | Fee | Processing time |
USD, ACH | 1 USD | Free | 0 to 2 business days |
USD, FedWire | 20 USD | 4 USD | 0 to 1 business day |
USD, SWIFT | 100 USD | 14 USD | 1 to 5 business days |
USD, RTP | 20 USD | 1.50%, capped at 50 USD | Near-instant |
EUR, SEPA | 2 EUR | 1 EUR | 0 to 5 business days |
EUR, Instant SEPA | 1 EUR, or 3 EUR via the alternative provider | 1 EUR, or 0.90 EUR via the alternative provider | Near-instant |
GBP, Faster Payments | 5 GBP | 1.95 GBP | Near-instant |
GBP, SWIFT | 100 GBP | 13 GBP | 2 to 5 business days |
CAD, EFT | 50 CAD | 0.35% | 2 to 5 business days |
CAD, Interac e-Transfer | 15 CAD | 10 CAD | 0 to 1 business day |
AUD, bank transfer | 5 AUD | Free | 0 to 2 business days |
AUD, Osko | 5 AUD | Free | Near-instant |
Data verified as of 9 September 2026 against Kraken's cash withdrawal options page. Kraken also publishes rails for CHF, ARS, BRL and MXN.
Two timing details sit outside the table.
USD ACH requests submitted after 2pm Eastern begin processing on the next business day, which turns a same-day request into a next-day one.
Near-instant rails still depend on the receiving bank supporting them, and Kraken flags RTP in particular as available only where your bank participates.
Kraken's funding limits page, updated 3 September 2026, gives a clear figure for cash and no figure at all for crypto.
A standard verified individual account can withdraw up to 100,000 USD a day and 500,000 USD per 30 days in cash, with the same ceilings applying to deposits.
Kraken's verification page frames the same standard account as being for cash activity under 100,000 USD a month, and both figures are published as they stand.
Crypto deposits are unlimited, and crypto withdrawal limits are described as dynamic rather than fixed, which is why no number appears on the page.
The limits that apply to you sit in the Limits tab of your account settings, and that tab is the only reliable answer to the question of how much you can send today.
Limits run on rolling windows, so a 24-hour ceiling frees up 24 hours after the transaction that consumed it rather than at midnight.
All limits are calculated in United States dollars, which is how a withdrawal in another currency can breach a limit that looks untouched in local terms.
Monero is the exception to the dynamic approach: since 15 August 2026 Kraken has applied rolling 30-day caps of 3,500 USD in deposits and 1,500 USD in withdrawals for individual accounts.
If you want your own number rather than a published range, record four timestamps.
Timestamp one: submission.
Note the moment you confirm the withdrawal, then watch for the status to move from Initiated to Pending.
Timestamp two: broadcast.
Note when the status reaches Sending and a transaction ID appears, because the gap between one and two is Kraken's internal processing time and nothing else.
Timestamp three: network confirmation.
Paste the transaction ID into a block explorer and note when it reaches the confirmation count your destination requires.
Timestamp four: credit.
Note when the funds appear as spendable at the destination, which is the only figure that matters in practice.
Two conditions make the test meaningful.
Run it with a small amount on a network you already use, and run it at least 72 hours after any card, PayPal or instant bank deposit so a funding hold does not contaminate the result.
The withdrawal is not available at all.
Check that the asset is actually in your Kraken balance rather than in a staking position, and that the network you want is one Kraken supports for that asset.
Part of the balance will not move.
Open orders and margin collateral both reserve funds, and a negative balance blocks withdrawals entirely until it is cleared.
A new address is refused for 24 hours.
That is the password-change hold, and it applies to newly added addresses and to addresses edited within the last day.
The transaction arrived but is not credited.
Many destinations require more confirmations than the single confirmation Kraken shows as Success, and each platform credits deposits only after its own threshold.
A memo or tag was left out.
Assets that require a memo or destination tag can strand funds at the receiving platform, and recovery depends entirely on that platform.
The amount is below the minimum.
Kraken's minimums include the fee, so a Tron USDT withdrawal needs 6 USDT and an XRP withdrawal needs 12.05 XRP.
Kraken charges a flat fee per asset and network rather than a percentage.
Asset and network | Withdrawal fee | Minimum, including fee |
BTC, Bitcoin | 0.000015 BTC | 0.000218 BTC |
ETH, Ethereum | 0.00014 ETH | 0.000168 ETH |
USDT, Ethereum | 0.6425 USDT | 0.771 USDT |
USDT, Tron | 1 USDT | 6 USDT |
USDT, Solana | 1.0551 USDT | 1.26612 USDT |
USDT, Polygon | 1 USDT | 2 USDT |
USDC, Ethereum | 0.6509 USDC | 0.78108 USDC |
SOL, Solana | 0.005 SOL | 0.011 SOL |
XRP, XRP Ledger | 0.05 XRP | 12.05 XRP |
TRX, Tron | 3 TRX | 20 TRX |
Data verified as of 9 September 2026 against Kraken's cryptocurrency withdrawal fee page, last updated 31 December 2025. Fees change without notice, and the figure on the confirmation screen is the one you pay.
The network you pick matters more than the platform in most cases.
Tron is the habit for USDT transfers, yet on Kraken it is the more expensive route at 1 USDT with a 6 USDT minimum, while Ethereum costs 0.6425 USDT.
Kraken's Bitcoin withdrawal fee of 0.000015 BTC is lower than ours at 0.00002 BTC.
Before any first transfer, send the smallest permitted amount on the network you intend to use and confirm it arrives, because a 1 USDT test is cheaper than a stranded transfer.
The notice dated 18 June 2026 closes withdrawals for 14 assets at 14:00 UTC on 25 September 2026, with conversion from 28 September.
The notice dated 28 July 2026 covers 21 assets, ended trading and deposits on 10 August, and closes withdrawals at 14:00 UTC on 6 November 2026, with conversion from 9 to 13 November.
That is the sentence to act on: an untouched balance in a delisted token can end up worth close to nothing, and the deadline is the last point at which you control the outcome.
Check the asset list in each notice rather than assuming, because a token can appear in one cycle and not another.
A fourth cycle has already closed: withdrawals for 21 tokens ended at 14:00 UTC on 27 August 2026, with conversion between 1 and 5 September, and BeInCrypto's report on that deadline set out the risk that thin or inactive markets could leave holders with minimal or no proceeds.
MEXC does not serve residents of the United States, the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, so if you live in one of those regions this section is reference only and Kraken remains your licensed option.
For readers elsewhere, work through these five points in order before you send.
Step one: clear the holds.
Wait out any 72-hour or 7-day funding hold, cancel open orders, close margin positions and avoid changing your password within 24 hours of the transfer.
Step two: match the network on both sides.
Copy the deposit address from the destination platform for the exact network you plan to use, and confirm that network is supported at both ends before you paste anything.
Step three: check the minimum and the fee.
Kraken's minimums include the fee, and picking a cheaper network is usually worth more than picking a cheaper platform.
Step four: send a test amount.
Send the smallest permitted amount, confirm it credits, then send the rest.
Step five: keep the transaction ID.
The transaction ID is what any support team on either side will ask for first.
On the destination side, MEXC's own support page states that a withdrawal in manual review clears in 5 to 60 minutes and that a transaction ID is usually generated within 1 to 60 minutes, with a support contact suggested if an hour passes without one.
For deposits, the practical figures that matter are per-network credit minimums and confirmation counts, both shown on the deposit page for the asset you are moving.
We run MEXC Learn, part of MEXC, which competes with Kraken outside the regions listed above, so read this as an interested party's view.
Our position is that Kraken's withdrawal documentation is the most transparent we have audited in this series, and we would rather compete with that than with vagueness.
Publishing a 10-minute cap per internal stage, naming every hold with its duration, and stating outright that support cannot bypass a timer are all things most exchanges avoid saying.
Kraken's cash rails are also something we do not offer: free ACH withdrawals, near-instant Faster Payments and Osko, and 1 EUR SEPA transfers have no MEXC equivalent.
Its Bitcoin withdrawal fee is lower than ours, at 0.000015 BTC against 0.00002 BTC.
Where we think Kraken should do better is the crypto withdrawal ceiling, which it describes as dynamic instead of publishing, and the gap between a 20-minute internal process and a 7-day Plaid hold that a new user has no way to anticipate.
On our side the numbers we publish are 80 BTC a day after Primary verification, 200 BTC after Advanced, and a 5 to 60 minute manual review window, and we would rather be held to those than to a promise of speed.
Stay with Kraken if your withdrawals are mostly cash to a bank in a market it serves, because free ACH, near-instant Faster Payments and Osko, and 1 EUR SEPA are hard to beat.
Stay with Kraken for Bitcoin transfers too, where its flat 0.000015 BTC fee is lower than most.
Look elsewhere if your withdrawals are mostly stablecoins on cheaper networks, or if you want a published daily crypto ceiling rather than a dynamic one.
Act now, wherever you bank, if you hold any asset on the June, July or August delisting lists, because those deadlines do not move.
Where you live decides much of this before any fee does.
Kraken serves clients in the United States outside Maine and New York, the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area under its Irish authorisations, Canada and Australia, and lists Japan among the regions it does not serve, per its licensing page updated 17 August 2026.
MEXC is not available to residents of the United States, the United Kingdom or the EEA, it appears on ESMA's list of non-compliant entities, and it is offboarding Netherlands customers by 31 October 2026 with final offboarding on 16 November 2026.
Japan is a special case: Kraken does not serve Japanese residents, while MEXC's apps are not available in Japanese app stores and MEXC appears on the Financial Services Agency's list of unregistered operators, so we do not recommend that residents of Japan open an MEXC account.
How long does a Kraken withdrawal take?
Kraken's internal checks take up to 20 minutes across the Initiated and Pending stages, then the transaction goes to the network.
Cash withdrawals range from near-instant to five business days depending on the rail.
Why is my Kraken withdrawal on hold?
On hold means a manual review replaced the automated check, and Kraken emails you if it needs anything.
Funding holds of 24 hours, 72 hours or 7 days are separate and run on a fixed timer.
What is Kraken's 72-hour withdrawal hold?
A first purchase with a newly added card or digital wallet, and every PayPal deposit, locks an equivalent amount from withdrawal for 72 hours.
Trading with those funds is unaffected.
Why does an ACH purchase lock funds for 7 days?
Instant purchases funded from a Plaid-linked bank account carry a 7-day withdrawal hold on the purchased amount.
Kraken states that support cannot shorten it.
What is Kraken's daily withdrawal limit?
Standard verified individuals can withdraw 100,000 USD a day and 500,000 USD per 30 days in cash.
Limits run on rolling windows rather than calendar days.
Why can I not find Kraken's crypto withdrawal limit?
Kraken describes crypto withdrawal limits as dynamic and does not publish a figure.
The limits that apply to your account appear in the Limits tab of your account settings.
What is the minimum Kraken withdrawal?
Minimums are set per asset and include the fee, such as 0.000218 BTC, 6 USDT on Tron and 12.05 XRP.
Cash minimums start at 1 USD on ACH.
Why can I not withdraw to a new address after changing my password?
Changing your password triggers a 24-hour hold on withdrawals to new addresses and to addresses edited in the last 24 hours.
Existing addresses are unaffected.
What happens to delisted tokens after 10 December 2026?
Withdrawals close at 15:00 UTC on that date for the August list, and Kraken converts remaining balances between 14 and 18 December.
It warns that proceeds may be minimal or nil.
