According to Odaily Planet Daily, Figure co-founder Mike Cagney said DeFi is better suited to asset-based finance (ABF), as it can avoid rehypothecation, improve collateralization, and support self-custody or autonomous venues alongside liquid collateral. Figure has already brought ABF on-chain, but the roughly $6 trillion market remains at an early stage of migration. He said the main reasons traditional financial assets have not yet moved on-chain at scale include poor user interfaces, difficulty combining qualified custody with recoverable self-custody, insufficient institutional features such as multi-wallet and tiered permissions, unresolved regulation, and the need for broader adoption of programmable on-chain KYC screening.
U.S. CFTC Asks Court to Dismiss CME Lawsuit Over Kalshi Bitcoin Perpetual Futures
According to Bitcoin News, the U.S. CFTC has asked a Washington, D.C. court to dismiss CME’s lawsuit challenging Kalshi’s Bitcoin perpetual futures. Kalshi’s cash-settled BTCPERP was approved on May 29, has no expiration date, and uses funding payments to track the spot price. CME argues that a contract without a delivery date and with continuous payments should be classified as a swap rather than a futures contract. The CFTC, however, argues that the dispute is unnecessary and noted that CME could list similar products itself. CME must submit its response by October 2, and the case could influence how U.S. regulators classify perpetual contracts under futures and swaps rules.
Antarctic Raises $7 Million With Participation From Valisa Capital Markets and Others
According to Odaily Planet Daily, Singapore-based decentralized perpetual futures exchange Antarctic announced a $7 million funding round at a $70 million valuation. Investors included Valisa Capital Markets, Lucidity Capital, Republic Crypto, and a proprietary trader making a first investment in crypto assets. The platform targets retail derivatives traders and offers trading tools similar to those available on centralized exchanges. Members of its founding team previously worked at OKX, Binance, and MEXC. Philippine Central Bank Proposes 12-Month Pause on New Payment System Operator Registrations, Tightening Oversight of Virtual Asset Service Providers
According to Cointelegraph, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas plans to suspend acceptance and processing of new payment system operator (OPS) registration applications for 12 months while it reviews classification and licensing frameworks. Applications submitted before the suspension may continue to be evaluated but will not receive final approval or rejection until the pause ends. Regulated merchant acquirers serving virtual asset service providers must also use direct merchant arrangements and implement enhanced due diligence, continuous monitoring, and risk-based transaction and settlement limits. If approved, the draft will take effect 15 days after publication and is currently open for public consultation.
South Korea Requires Overseas Financial Account Reporting Even if Crypto Exchange Goes Bankrupt
According to Odaily Planet Daily, South Korea’s National Tax Service has ruled that residents must continue reporting accounts held with overseas virtual asset exchanges even if the exchange has gone bankrupt. Residents who opened accounts with foreign virtual asset service providers for digital asset trading remain subject to overseas financial account reporting requirements as long as the accounts fall within the reporting scope. The amount of digital assets expected to be covered by overseas account reporting in 2026 is projected to reach KRW 10.5 trillion, down 5.4% from 2025.
