OKX requires every individual account to pass one advanced identity verification before it can trade, deposit or withdraw: personal details, a government-issued ID, a selfie and, where applicable, proof of address issued within 3 months (6 months for EEA users), with OKX reviewing within 24 hours, per its help center pages updated 25 August 2026.

Key Takeaways
  • OKX requires one advanced identity verification, covering personal details, a government ID, a live selfie and proof of address where applicable, before an account can trade, deposit or withdraw.
  • Proof of address must be issued within the last 3 months, or 6 months for EEA users, and letters, packages, screenshots and black-and-white copies are rejected.
  • The 24-hour crypto withdrawal limit is set by your fee tier and starts at 10,000,000 USD, not by any KYC level.
  • US accounts must supply a Social Security Number, while OKX TR accepts only the chip-based Turkish identity card.
  • One ID verifies one OKX account, verification details cannot be changed after approval, and an account frozen for a missed re-verification can still withdraw and convert.
  • MEXC runs a two-step ladder, Primary and Advanced, with a review MEXC states typically takes about 15 minutes, and is not available in the United States, the United Kingdom or the EEA.

Search for OKX KYC requirements and you will meet three sets of level names and four sets of withdrawal figures, from 10 BTC and 500 BTC a day to 10,000 USD and 1,000,000 USD, often on pages that carry a 2026 date.
None of them matches what OKX's help center says today.
The verification pages OKX updated on 25 August 2026 describe one verification step, list the documents it needs, and state that the withdrawal limit comes from the fee schedule rather than from a verification level.
This guide is built on those pages, with the retrieval date on every claim, and it ends with a comparison against MEXC's two-step ladder for readers who can use it.

Does OKX Require KYC? Yes, Before You Trade, Deposit or Withdraw

Yes, for anything beyond looking at prices.
OKX's help center states that an individual account must complete advanced identity verification to meet Know Your Customer requirements, and that trading, deposits and withdrawals open only after verification is complete.
The crypto withdrawal guide repeats the rule from the other side: identity verification is required in order to make withdrawals.
Verification is also not a one-time event, since OKX says it is required to ask customers to re-verify their identity information periodically, and an account that misses the grace period is frozen until it does.
The regulatory backdrop is public record: on 24 February 2025 OKX's Seychelles-based operator pleaded guilty in the Southern District of New York to one count of operating an unlicensed money transmitting business and agreed to penalties of more than 504 million USD, with an external compliance consultant retained through February 2027, according to the US Attorney's Office press release.
OKX said in a statement the same day that the customers involved were a small percentage of its base and no longer on the platform.

What OKX Verification Actually Asks For

The current flow collects four things in one pass, and each has rules that decide whether the submission passes.

Documents OKX Accepts and Rejects

Most rejections come from the document, not the person, so this is the list to check before uploading anything.
Document type
Accepted
Rejected
Identity document
Government-issued ID accepted in your country, including passports and driving licences, showing full name, date of birth, issue and expiry dates and a clear face photo
Expired documents; screenshots, scans or printed copies; black-and-white photos; cropped corners; passports without a signature; voter's cards in most countries; IDs already registered to another OKX account
Proof of address
Driver's licence or government ID showing the address; utility bills for water, electricity or gas; bank statements including e-statements; property management invoices; documents or voter identification listing your address issued by a state or local government, an employer's HR or finance department, or a university, all within the last 3 months (6 months in the EEA)
Letters or packages sent to you; documents in another person's name; documents older than the window; screenshots or non-original files; missing pages
Language
Documents in Latin characters, or an international passport
Documents in an unsupported language such as Arabic, Sinhala or Burmese, unless a Latin-character document or passport is supplied instead
Selfie
One person, full face centred in the frame, taken live during the flow
Dark or shaky captures that the system cannot scan, faces that do not match the ID, more than one person in frame
Data verified as of 9 September 2026 against OKX's help center pages "A beginner's guide to identity verification", "How do I verify an individual account?" and "Why did my identity verification fail?", all updated 25 August 2026.
Two details on the proof-of-address list are easy to miss.
A driver's licence counts only if the address on it is visible and matches the address you entered, and a letter addressed to you does not count at all, even from a bank.

KYC Rules by Region

Data verified as of 9 September 2026 against OKX's US help page "How do I get my individual account verified?" (updated 11 August 2026), the global page "How do I verify an individual account?" (updated 25 August 2026), OKX TR's identity verification guide, and OKX's U.S. Fee Framework 2026 disclosure.
One cut-off sits on the failure page: a document from an unsupported country or region fails verification outright.
Separately, OKX withdrew its Hong Kong licence application in May 2024 and ceased providing centralized virtual asset trading services to Hong Kong residents from 31 May 2024.
Anyone who holds more than one nationality is told to verify with the one most relevant to their identity, and to keep a record of which ID number they registered, because OKX will not look it up for them.

Where Did OKX KYC Level 1, 2 and 3 Go?

Guides written before the current verification flow describe three levels, with Level 1 as a name and ID number, Level 2 as ID photos plus a selfie, and Level 3 for institutions, each attached to a daily withdrawal cap quoted in BTC or as 10,000 USD and 1,000,000 USD.
The help center pages updated on 25 August 2026 do not use those labels.
They describe one advanced verification that collects the ID, the selfie and the address in a single pass, and the beginner's guide says in as many words that the 24-hour crypto withdrawal limit is determined by your fee tier.
That limit is printed on the fee schedule: 10,000,000 USD a day at the Regular tier, 20,000,000 USD at VIP 1, and 80,000,000 USD at VIP 8 and above, set by assets or 30-day trading volume.
So whatever label an older guide gives your account, two things hold on the current pages.
The documents OKX asks for are the four in the table above, and the withdrawal ceiling is set by the fee schedule, which for a new account means 10,000,000 USD a day before any VIP tier.
The verification page inside your account is the place to confirm what your own account still shows, since OKX notes that its help articles may not apply to every customer.

How Long OKX KYC Takes and Why It Fails

OKX commits to reviewing a submission within 24 hours and says it notifies you instantly once the review is complete.
If the result is a rejection, the reason arrives by email and you resubmit from the verification page.
OKX's failure page, updated 25 August 2026, groups the causes into a dozen categories, and six of them account for most of the practical trouble.
ID already verified: one set of identity information can verify one account only, and OKX points anyone whose ID is occupied to a separate process for transferring the account.
Invalid ID: the profile name or date of birth does not match, the document lacks a face photo or a passport signature, or the ID has expired.
Invalid document photo: blurry, cropped, obscured, or the wrong document entirely.
Invalid proof of address: another person's name, an unacceptable document type, or an issue date outside the window.
Screenshot, non-original, missing pages, damaged, expired or unsupported language: OKX wants original colour files in image or PDF format, unedited, with every page that carries information.
Face recognition: the selfie must be taken in good light without shaking, with only one person in frame, and the account owner must complete it personally.
Two rules on that page are stricter than on many exchanges.
Changing verification information, whether to a different person or a different document, is not supported, and OKX says a restriction placed for that reason cannot be removed.
Applicants under 18 fail automatically, and can only reapply once they reach the age requirement.
The page also covers two edge cases most guides skip: twins or family members who share names and birth dates can ask for a manual review with both ID numbers, and hearing-impaired users can complete video verification with an immediate family member as a helper after submitting a disability certificate and both parties' documents.

Rules Most Guides Miss

Six rules from the help center change how you should prepare, and none of them appears in the level tables that circulate online.
One ID registers one account, OKX's user agreement bars multiple accounts for any purpose, and periodic reviews can restrict accounts that break the rule.
OKX cannot retrieve your registered ID number through the website, so it tells you to keep your own record of which document you used.
Nobody can contact support about your verification on your behalf, but an owner who is locked out can reach the OKX Assistant as a guest and submit a ticket from the email address registered to the account.
The estimated deposit amount you enter during verification cannot be changed later, but OKX collects it for reference only and you can deposit more than you estimated.
If you no longer live at the address on your ID, you can register your new address by supplying an additional proof-of-address document.
Name changes after verification are only available in certain regions, and everything else about your verified details goes through customer support.

What You Can Do on OKX Without KYC

Very little, and OKX is explicit about it.
An unverified individual account can browse markets, prices and OKX's learning content, but trading, deposits and withdrawals all sit behind verification.
The one exception runs in the other direction: an account that was verified and later frozen for missing a periodic re-verification keeps access to its funds, and OKX confirms that withdrawals and conversions still work while the account is frozen.
There is no lightweight tier, no unverified withdrawal allowance and no P2P route around the check on the current pages, and this article does not suggest one.

OKX KYC vs MEXC KYC

Before the comparison, one line on eligibility: MEXC does not serve residents of the United States, the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, so readers on OKX US or OKX Europe should treat the MEXC column as reference only.
MEXC's official KYC FAQ, updated 2 June 2026, sets out two individual levels, Primary and Advanced.

Data verified as of 9 September 2026 against OKX's help center verification pages (updated 25 August 2026) and fee schedule, and MEXC's support pages "MEXC KYC FAQ" (updated 2 June 2026) and "Common Questions About KYC Verification" (updated 2 April 2026).
The two systems are built on different ideas.
OKX asks for everything once and then lets the fee tier decide how much you can move, so a Regular-tier account starts with a 10,000,000 USD ceiling that most individuals will never reach.
MEXC splits verification into two steps, so Primary already opens spot and futures trading, P2P and an 80 BTC daily withdrawal, and Advanced is only needed for fiat rails and the 200 BTC ceiling.
On review time, MEXC's stated typical case of about 15 minutes is well inside OKX's 24-hour outer bound, though MEXC also states that some cases take 8 to 24 hours.
If you are outside OKX's regional entities and want to see what each MEXC level unlocks before uploading anything, the official MEXC KYC FAQ lists it on one page.

Watch Out for Fake KYC Support

Verification pages attract scammers because they are where people expect to hand over documents.
OKX's own withdrawal help page warns that any contact through QQ, Telegram or WeChat asking for transfers, QR-code scans or verification codes is a scam, even when the sender uses a profile picture or name that looks like an official OKX account.
The only place OKX collects verification documents is the verification page inside your logged-in account, on the website or in the app.
A request to send your ID, selfie or proof of address by email, chat or social media reply is a scam, whatever logo it carries, and so is any offer to speed up your review for a fee.
OKX also states that it will only discuss verification with the account owner, which means a message claiming to handle your verification on your behalf is not coming from OKX.
The same rule holds on MEXC: documents go through the Identification page in your own account, and verification results arrive at the email registered to that account.

The MEXC View

We publish MEXC Learn, so we have an interest in where you open an account, and every OKX rule above was read from OKX's own help center before we wrote a word about MEXC.
OKX's verification system has two real strengths.
Its help center is unusually specific about why submissions fail, down to passports without signatures and documents in unsupported scripts, and it serves the United States, the EEA and Türkiye through local entities with their own onboarding, which MEXC does not do.
A single verification with a fee-tier ceiling also means there is no second ladder to climb once you are in.
The trade-off is that OKX front-loads the full document set, including proof of address where applicable, and gives itself 24 hours to review it, while MEXC's Primary level opens trading and an 80 BTC daily withdrawal on a document check that MEXC says typically clears in about 15 minutes.
MEXC's limits also have hard edges we should state plainly.
MEXC does not serve the United States, the United Kingdom or the EEA, its iOS and Android apps are not available in Japanese app stores, and MEXC appears on the Japan Financial Services Agency's list of unregistered operators.
For the full head-to-head on fees, products and security, read the full MEXC vs OKX comparison, and for the honest version of MEXC's own weaknesses, our MEXC review, including the catch.
How we check every claim in these articles, including what we do when a page says it may not apply to all customers, is set out in how we verify exchange data.

Who Should Verify on OKX, and Who Should Look Elsewhere

Verify on OKX if you live in the United States, the EEA or Türkiye and want a local entity, if you prefer one verification with a ceiling you will never hit, or if you trade the options, spreads and block products that only OKX offers.
Look at a two-step ladder if you want to start trading on a document check before adding proof of address, and if you are outside the regions MEXC does not serve.
Traders in the United States or the EEA are on OKX US or OKX Europe and cannot use MEXC, so the MEXC column above is context for them, not a recommendation.
If OKX's document set or regional cut-offs are the problem, our list of OKX alternatives compared on verified numbers covers the other venues, and where to buy crypto by region maps who serves which country.
Whichever platform you pick, prepare the original colour document, check the issue date on the address proof, and photograph it in daylight, because those three steps remove most of the rejections on either side.

OKX KYC Requirements FAQ

Does OKX require KYC?
Yes, an individual account must complete advanced identity verification before it can trade, deposit or withdraw.
OKX also asks customers to re-verify periodically and freezes accounts that miss the grace period.

Can I use OKX without KYC?
Only to browse markets, prices and learning content, since trading, deposits and withdrawals require verification.
A previously verified account that is frozen for a missed re-verification can still withdraw and convert.

What documents does OKX need for verification?
Personal details, a valid government-issued ID accepted for your country, a live selfie, and proof of address where applicable.
US accounts must also enter a Social Security Number.

How long does OKX verification take?
OKX states that it reviews submissions within 24 hours and notifies you instantly when the review is complete.
Rejections arrive by email with the reason, and you resubmit from the verification page.

Why did my OKX verification fail?
The common causes are an ID already registered to another account, an expired or unsupported ID, a blurry or cropped photo, address proof in another name or older than 3 months, screenshots instead of originals, and a selfie mismatch.
The exact reason is in the email OKX sends after the review.

Do US users need an SSN for OKX?
Yes, OKX US states that providing a Social Security Number is mandatory to pass identity verification.
Accepted IDs are a state-issued ID, a driver's license or a passport.

Can I verify with an address different from the one on my ID?
Yes, you can register your current address by providing an additional proof-of-address document.
The document must be issued within 3 months, or 6 months for EEA users, and letters or packages do not count.

Can I open two OKX accounts with one ID?
No, one set of identity information can verify one account, and OKX's user agreement bars multiple accounts for any purpose.
MEXC, by comparison, allows one identity to verify up to two accounts.

Is Level 1 or Level 2 still a thing on OKX?
OKX's help center pages updated 25 August 2026 describe a single advanced verification and do not use Level 1, 2 or 3 labels.
The 24-hour crypto withdrawal limit is set by your fee tier, starting at 10,000,000 USD, not by a verification level.

Risk and Compliance Disclosure

All verification rules in this article were retrieved from OKX and MEXC official help pages on 9 September 2026, and OKX notes that its help articles may not apply to every customer, so confirm the requirements shown inside your own account.
Identity verification rules change with regulation and can differ by country, and neither platform's limits are a guarantee of service in a given jurisdiction.
MEXC is not available to residents of the United States, the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, and availability elsewhere is subject to MEXC's Terms of Service.
OKX serves some jurisdictions through separate local entities with their own terms and onboarding requirements.
Nothing here is legal, tax or investment advice.
If you are outside the regions above and want to start on a document check rather than a full document set, MEXC's Primary level is the lighter first step.
