MANILA, Philippines – At least seven people were injured after a portion of the ceiling at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 collapsed, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Friday, April 3.
New NAIA Infra Corporation (NNIC), the private operator of the country’s main gateway, said the incident occurred at around 10:43 am at the terminal’s arrival extension. The Philippine National Police’s Aviation Security Group responded to the incident, and the area was immediately cordoned off.
Meanwhile, the injured were given medical assistance. NNIC’s engineering team also inspected the affected area and confirmed that it was safe to continue operations.
In a separate statement, the DOTr said it instructed NNIC and the Manila International Airport Authority to investigate the incident and submit a detailed report.
“The DOTr is closely monitoring the situation and expects a thorough assessment of the incident, including the implementation of necessary measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future,” the department said. – Rappler.com
