Trump signals this Cabinet member on the hot seat is safe — for now

President Donald Trump is weighing additional cabinet changes following the ouster of Attorney General Pam Bondi – but has also signaled reassurance to at least one official who has long been rumored to be on the chopping block.

According to new reporting from the Washington Post, Trump has discussed further shakeups with advisers, while seeking to avoid what one source described as a “massive shakeup” of his administration.

Hours after Bondi’s firing on Thursday, Trump wanted to make a “very strong” statement backing his director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, who had been the subject of speculation that she could be forced out.

The president’s rapid response account on X soon blasted that message, posting a statement from his communication director saying the president “has total confidence” in Gabbard and that “any insinuation otherwise is totally fake news.”

“The President has assembled the most talented and impactful Cabinet ever, and they have collectively delivered historic victories on behalf of the American people,” the statement added.

Gabbard has continued briefing Trump on intelligence matters, even as the president recently acknowledged she was “a little bit different in her thought process than me” on Iran, the Post noted Friday.

Still, a White House official told the publication that Gabbard is “safe” in her job – for now. But other members of the MAGA administration may not be.

Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick have both faced scrutiny and could be at risk of being fired next, according to the same official. Last month, Trump ousted Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
