Flutterwave chief executive Olugbenga Agboola has announced plans to establish the company’s South-East regional hub in Anambra State, with a commitment to expand access to payments, loans, and financial technology for small and large businesses across the region.

Agboola made the announcement during a visit to Awka on Thursday, where he was received by members of the Anambra tech community.

“We want Anambra to be our hub for the entire South East of Nigeria,” Agboola said. “We want to put a system here, put our fees here, put our infrastructure here, and put our POS in every small business and large firm in Anambra State.”

The visit comes weeks after Flutterwave secured a banking licence from the Central Bank of Nigeria, a milestone that significantly expands what the company can offer. Beyond processing payments, Flutterwave can now provide business accounts, lending, payroll management, and multi-currency transactions on a single platform.

Agboola said the licence was central to the Anambra expansion plan, as it allows the company to go deeper into financial services rather than simply enabling transactions.

“For the past 10 years, Flutterwave has been a platform where money goes through. But now, with our banking licence, we can make it easy for new entrepreneurs all over Nigeria to grow faster and quicker via our platform,” he said.

Agboola said the hub will make Flutterwave’s POS infrastructure available to businesses across the state, while also opening access to loans and financing for small and medium enterprises.

He added that the company is planning a major impact programme for entrepreneurs in Anambra, which he described as “very, very big” and set to launch soon.

“We’re partnering to build a very massive impact programme in Anambra State. Our goal is to impact the community here, with technology, with financing, with lending. We have to create more millionaires from this city,” he said.

Agboola explained that the expansion is part of a larger plan to use Flutterwave’s platform to help South-East businesses grow and compete globally.“We’ve built tech that has gone global. It can be done again,” he said.

Having recently obtained a banking license, the company is transitioning from a payments infrastructure provider to a comprehensive financial services institution. This change allows the company to directly manage the movement, settlement, and accessibility of funds on its platform.

The Anambra hub would be the company’s first dedicated regional base in the South-East, extending an infrastructure that already reaches businesses across Nigeria.
