MS NOW reports President Donald Trump is lashing out at prominent figures on the right who are revolting against mistakes he made in Iran, but Attorney George Conway says Trump’s problem is really with the massive MAGA hive mind finally coming to terms with reality.
“The MAGA Republicans on the ground, some of them are already convinced [about Iran and Trump],” Conway told MS NOW hosts Jonathan Capehart, Jacqueline Alemany and Eugene Daniels. “Here's what's happened here. Trump creates his own reality. I mean, he's a dumba—— and a criminal. He's a crackpot. And he kind of deep down knows all that. … So, he creates his own reality. I mean, that's part of his psychology. And people on the right found him useful, even though they knew all of those things. So, they created and joined the alternative reality because they thought he was useful in owning the libs and stopping things that they don't like. “
“But the problem is that there is what psychologists call a ‘cognitive dissonance,’” continued Conway. “You have to bend reality and stuff reality into a box and pretend it's not there and just say, ‘oh, wasn't that a brilliant thing the president did yesterday? Oh, so smart, so strategic. It’s 55-dimensional chess!’ And of course, deep down, you know its bulls——. And you can only do that for so long before you lose your mind. And then now he's not useful to them anymore. He's screwing up. He's making them pay higher gas prices. He's got them into this war. The reality is overcoming the unreality that you have to maintain in your split brain to be a Trumpist. And we're seeing that breakdown among the MAGA superclass.”
That MAGA ‘superclass’ includes high-paid MAGA influencers and podcasters like Tucker Carlson who recently said, “Those people who are in direct contact with the president need to say, ‘no, I'll resign. I'll do whatever I can do legally to stop this because this is insane’”.
“Tackle Trump and …[and] let him pretend he's president and publicly report that he's going through a health issue and let [Vice President JD] Vance take over,” a guest on the Joe Rogan podcast suggested. “It literally needs to be something like that. It's that bad.”
But it’s not just the millionaire MAGA lieutenants saying these things anymore, said Conway. Now the arguments are welling up from the ground level from people ‘paying at the gas pump.”
“They're so used to their identity and to … saying ‘yes’, but that doesn't mean they actually believe. And that doesn't mean they're going to show up to polls … and walk on broken glass like they used to defend him.”
