TLDR

  • XRP Ledger has integrated zero-knowledge proof verification through Boundless to enhance transaction privacy.
  • The upgrade allows institutions to verify payments without revealing transaction amounts or counterparties.
  • The company said the deployment marks the first native zero-knowledge verification on the ledger.
  • Zero-knowledge proofs enable compliance checks without exposing sensitive financial data on the public blockchain.
  • SBI Holdings, Zand Bank, Archax, and Guggenheim Treasury Services already use the network.

XRP Ledger has integrated zero-knowledge proof verification through Boundless, a ZK proving network. The update enables private yet compliant transactions on its public blockchain. The company said the deployment marks the first native ZK verification on the ledger.

XRP Ledger Enables Private Verification for Institutions

XRP Ledger connected with Boundless to add native zero-knowledge proof verification. The network now verifies transactions without exposing sensitive transaction data. The company stated, “This is the first deployment of its kind on the XRP Ledger.”

XRP Ledger Adds Zero-Knowledge Proofs for Privacy

The integration allows banks and funds to confirm payments without revealing amounts or counterparties. Institutions can prove compliance and funding status while keeping transaction details private. As a result, the ledger addresses transparency concerns that limit institutional usage.

Public blockchains display wallet balances, transaction flows, and counterparty relationships by default. However, financial institutions often require confidentiality to protect competitive positions. Therefore, the update targets a long-standing privacy gap on public networks.

Zero-knowledge proofs allow one party to prove a statement without revealing supporting data. For example, a bank can confirm credit eligibility without sharing income details. On XRPL, the system verifies valid and compliant payments without disclosing identities or values.

XRPL already supports institutional participants across multiple regions. SBI Holdings in Japan, Zand Bank in the UAE, Archax in the U.K., and Guggenheim Treasury Services in the U.S. use the network. More than $550 million has entered XRPL ecosystem initiatives to date.

Quantum Debate Highlights Cryptography Standards

The integration comes as blockchain networks review cryptographic standards. Google recently published a quantum computing research paper. The paper prompted major chains to reassess current cryptographic assumptions.

Traditional blockchains rely on elliptic curve cryptography for digital signatures. Quantum computing research has raised questions about the future resistance of those schemes. In contrast, several ZK systems rely on different mathematical constructions.

Some zero-knowledge proof frameworks already support quantum-resistant models. Others can upgrade to post-quantum constructions with relative ease. Therefore, the addition of ZK infrastructure aligns with evolving cryptographic research.

Boundless operates as a distributed zero-knowledge proving network. Through this connection, XRPL users can access scalable proof verification services. The company said the system verifies proofs directly on the ledger.
