Google's latest robotics AI model brings enhanced spatial reasoning and instrument reading capabilities to autonomous robots through new Gemini API access.

Google DeepMind released Gemini Robotics-ER 1.6 on April 14, 2026, marking a substantial upgrade to its embodied reasoning AI designed specifically for autonomous robots operating in physical environments.

The new model targets a fundamental challenge in robotics: getting machines to actually understand what they're looking at. Reading a pressure gauge, counting objects on a shelf, figuring out if a task succeeded—these sound simple until you realize most robots still struggle with them.
