Bitcoin treasury company Strategy plans to start paying dividends on its preferred stock, STRC, twice a month. The company chair, Michael Saylor, shared this on X.
According to him, the proposal aims to improve liquidity, increase demand, and stabilize the price of STRC.
The proposal to change the frequency of dividend payments from monthly to semi-monthly is expected to happen at the shareholders’ meeting. Strategy has already filed a preliminary proxy on April 17 and will file the final proxy by April 28.
It is after the final proxy that voting will open, with voting and the decision to be completed on June 8 at the Shareholders Meeting.
The move to implement semi-monthly voting for STRC follows the remarkable performance of the preferred equity. According to Saylor, STRC is already one of the most successful credit instruments to date.
The product yield of 11.5% per annum is better than that of traditional credit instruments, including junk bonds and private credit offers. Despite the high yield, its volatility over the past 30 days is just 1.7%, while the Sharpe Ratio is 4.5, better than that of traditional credit products and even equities.
Unsurprisingly, this has enabled massive growth in its notional volume, which is now at $6.4 billion. Average daily liquidity is also at $339 million.

Despite this performance, Strategy believes the product can become more efficient by reducing its volatility. The company’s CEO, Phong Le, said that STRC liquidity typically increases in the days leading up to the record date.
This is responsible for its current volatility, and the company believes having two record and dividend payment dates will address the problem. The record date for dividend payments will now fall on the 15th day of the month and the last day of the month.
The record date will still be at least 15 days before dividend payments, in compliance with Nasdaq rules, which require 10 days between the dividend declaration and the record date. This will ensure the stock better maintains its $100 value.
By adopting semi-monthly dividends, STRC will become the only equity globally that pays dividends at that frequency. Phong stated that this can also make it more attractive.
While STRC has been enjoying an impressive performance since its launch last year, becoming central to the Strategy funding for its BTC acquisition, the company’s shares, MSTR, have been struggling.
The stock, which peaked above $425 in July 2025, has been in decline since then, even before Bitcoin itself peaked. However, the over 40% crash in Bitcoin value from its peak also accelerated MSTR’s drop, with the shares bottoming at $106 in February.
It now looks to be on the path to recovery, with a single-day gain of 11% on April 17 after Bitcoin climbed above $75,000. The stock, which is now trading around $166, is in the green for the year with a 9.59% year-to-date gain.
Interestingly, Bitcoin is still in the red for the year, down 14% YTD. However, it has found its footing above $76,000 despite declining more than 2% in the past 24 hours.
