Kash Patel just screwed over Trump's DOJ with 'terrible' decision: lawyer

A lawyer revealed on Monday that FBI Director Kash Patel's latest "terrible" decision just put President Donald Trump's Department of Justice in a bad spot.

Michael Popok, a lawyer and host of the podcast "The Intersection with Michael Popok," said during a new episode on Monday that Patel's decision to sue The Atlantic for $250 million in a defamation suit over a report about his excessive drinking while on duty has just opened up Trump's DOJ to being deposed in the lawsuit. Popok said that would give The Atlantic more information about other instances they've reported on, but may not have had the full picture.

Popok said it was a "terrible" decision on Patel's part to file the lawsuit.

"What you've really done is open up Kash Patel, those in his inner circle, both current and former FBI, those who have been fired, and all the sources for the reporting to have to testify," Popok said.

"This is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen," he added.

Last week, The Atlantic published a bombshell report describing Patel's erratic behavior at the helm of one of the nation's most powerful law enforcement agencies. Patel allegedly threatened to sue the outlet ahead of the story's publication, Popok said.
