Shortly after taking office, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order outlining the creation of a National Strategic Bitcoin Reserve by March 2025.
While no official steps have been taken regarding a strategic Bitcoin (BTC) reserve since then, a new announcement on the subject may be on the way.
Accordingly, the Trump administration may soon announce a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve plan. At this point, one of the White House’s cryptocurrency advisors hinted that a significant announcement regarding the Trump administration’s “Strategic Bitcoin Reserve” plan is expected within the next few weeks.
According to The Block, Patrick Witt, Executive Director of the White House Digital Assets Advisory Council, stated at the ‘Bitcoin 2026’ conference in Las Vegas that he and others are working on the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve signed into law by Trump.
Witt stated in his speech that a significant announcement regarding the effort to create a strategic Bitcoin reserve would be made in the coming weeks, adding:
As you may recall, the executive order signed by Trump essentially aimed to create a strategic Bitcoin reserve funded by Bitcoins and other digital assets seized by the government through criminal or civil lawsuits. The goal is to use approximately 200,000 BTC seized through government enforcement actions as a national reserve asset.
