The 35% AI share turns the model collapse risk from a theoretical concern into a real risk; future base models, while feeding on today’s web crawls, will ingest low semantic diversity artificial data. The team is turning this analysis into a continuous monitoring tool by working with the Internet Archive. Although the public is caught in misconceptions, the data indicates that the internet hasn’t died, but a large part of the new one carries mechanical traces.
