'You don't care': Senator hits Hegseth with heated hearing questions on unpopular war

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Thursday was confronted to his face with statistics on the unpopularity of the war in Iran during a budget hearing.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a Democrat, took the opportunity to question Hegseth during a hearing that was marked by multiple outbursts.

At one moment, she cited statistics about Americans not approving of the government's Iran combat.

Gillibrand said, "3 out of 5 Americans are against this war today," to which Hegseth replied, "I believe we do have the support of the American people" before comparing the timing to the war in Iraq and getting into a back-and-forth with the lawmaker.

Gillibrand then shot back at the DOD chief, declaring, "You don't care that the American people don't support this war," and then repeating that statement again.
