Anthropic Boosts AI Capacity with SpaceX Partnership, Claude Updates

Anthropic, the San Francisco-based AI safety and research firm, has announced a significant partnership with SpaceX, securing over 300 megawatts of compute capacity from the Colossus 1 data center. This deal, which includes access to more than 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs, positions Anthropic to meet the growing demand for its AI systems, particularly its flagship product, Claude.

The additional capacity comes at a time when Anthropic is aggressively targeting enterprise clients, including those in financial services and healthcare, with advanced AI solutions. According to the company, this boost in resources will allow it to raise usage limits for Claude Code and its API offerings, effective immediately. Pro and Max subscribers will see their five-hour usage rates for Claude Code doubled, and peak hour restrictions removed. API rate limits for the Claude Opus models have also been increased, reflecting Anthropic’s push to accommodate its most dedicated users.

Enterprise AI Arms Race Intensifies

This partnership with SpaceX is Anthropic’s latest move in the AI infrastructure arms race, as competitors like OpenAI and Google continue to expand their services. Anthropic has already inked deals with major tech players, including a $30 billion partnership with Microsoft and NVIDIA for Azure capacity and a 5-gigawatt agreement with Google and Broadcom, set to come online in 2027. Additionally, the company has committed $50 billion to AI infrastructure projects in the U.S. through Fluidstack.

These moves underscore Anthropic’s ambition to dominate the enterprise AI market, a sector its CEO, Dario Amodei, has described as critical for business survival. On the same day, Amodei remarked that companies failing to adopt AI might "go bankrupt," highlighting the intensifying competition for AI integration in business operations.

International Expansion and Local Commitments

While the SpaceX deal focuses on U.S. infrastructure, Anthropic also has its eyes on global markets. Its recent agreement with Amazon includes expanded AI capacity in Asia and Europe to meet compliance and data residency requirements, particularly for regulated industries. The company emphasized its strategy of partnering with democratic nations to ensure secure supply chains and stable regulatory environments for its AI operations.

Anthropic has also committed to addressing community concerns related to its operations. In the U.S., it has pledged to cover any consumer electricity price increases caused by its data centers, and it is exploring similar commitments for international markets.

Why It Matters

Anthropic’s strategic investments and partnerships highlight its bid to capture a growing share of the $380 billion AI market (as of February 2026). By doubling down on enterprise-level capacity and expanding its global footprint, it’s positioning itself as a key player in the enterprise AI race, challenging established giants like OpenAI and Google. For businesses and developers relying on Claude, the immediate increase in usage limits and API capacity adds tangible value, particularly for those in data-intensive sectors.

The SpaceX partnership also hints at future ambitions: Anthropic has expressed interest in developing orbital AI compute capacity, a move that could redefine the scale and scope of AI infrastructure. With enterprise demand showing no signs of slowing, these investments could significantly strengthen Anthropic’s ability to deliver scalable, high-performance AI solutions in the years ahead.
