The DePIN veteran is opening blockchain development to anyone using Claude or Codex, dropping the barrier from specialist engineering team to solo developer.

Key Notes

  • XYO has launched the XYO AI SDK, a developer toolkit that lets users of Claude, Codex, and other AI coding tools build products directly on XYO Layer One without writing blockchain code.

  • The company is launching XYO Data Lakes alongside the SDK, a cryptographically secured storage system aimed at the chain-of-custody problem behind AI hallucinations.

  • XYO was launched in 2018 and operates with 10M+ nodes

XYO, widely regarded as the first Decentralised Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN) and a project that predates the term, has launched a developer toolkit designed to bring vibe coding directly to on-chain development. The XYO AI SDK, released on May 12, allows developers using AI coding environments like Claude and Codex to build products that run directly on XYO Layer One without writing Solidity, reading protocol documentation, or learning blockchain internals.

According to the company, a product that previously required a blockchain engineering team and months of integration can now be built by a solo developer in an afternoon. The SDK is the first toolkit of its kind to extend vibe coding workflows, where developers describe what they want and AI tools generate the code, to a layer-one blockchain in their existing development environment.

The Vibe Coding Wave Reaches On-Chain Development

The launch arrives at a moment when developer accessibility has become one of the more contested questions in crypto infrastructure. Layer-one chains have spent years competing on throughput, fees, and developer mindshare, but the underlying problem of who can build on them has remained largely untouched. Solidity expertise is still the gate, and the gate has stayed narrow.

Vibe coding has, in the past two years, ended the engineer-only era of software development more broadly. Tools like Cursor, Claude, and Codex have expanded the population of people who can ship products from "engineers" to anyone capable of articulating what they want to build. XYO is the first project to apply that shift to blockchain at the toolkit level, opening XYO Layer One to a developer population that has been structurally locked out.

XYO Targets the AI Agent Economy

Beyond developer accessibility, the SDK positions XYO for the emerging AI agent economy. Autonomous agents need wallets to transact, verifiable identities to operate, and on-chain records of their decisions to be held accountable. Most existing agent infrastructure does not solve the accountability piece. The XYO AI SDK gives developers a way to put all three capabilities on-chain for any agent they build, allowing agents to operate as auditable entities rather than black boxes.

XYO is also launching XYO Data Lakes, a cryptographically secured off-chain storage system with on-chain proof of integrity, built specifically for AI workloads. The company says the system addresses the chain-of-custody problem behind a significant portion of AI hallucinations, allowing AI systems to be trained on data with verifiable provenance rather than the scraped or unverifiable inputs common in current pipelines.

XYO operates one of the largest decentralised node networks in the industry, with over 10 million nodes and more than 100 billion data queries processed since the project's launch. XY Labs, XYO's parent company, was the first US crypto company approved by the SEC for a Regulation A offering and among the first to tokenize equity through tZERO. The company says 80 percent of its users come from outside the crypto space, an unusually high figure for a layer-one project.

Whether the toolkit translates into the scale XYO is projecting depends on how much of the vibe coding population eventually ships on-chain, and how much of that activity lands on XYO Layer One specifically. The wider release over the coming months will offer the first real indicator.

The XYO AI SDK is open for early access from May 12.
