Cardano V11 Van Rossem is live on Preview testnet as PreProd awaits ratification and mainnet vote targets May 29.

Cardano has advanced its V11 “Van Rossem” hard fork after Preview testnet began running Protocol Version 11.

The upgrade now moves through staged testing, while PreProd awaits ratification and mainnet governance action remains targeted for May 29.

Preview Testnet Starts Protocol Version 11

According to Intersect, Cardano activated the V11 hard fork on Preview testnet on May 8. The action followed a governance submission made on May 5.

As a result, Preview now runs under Protocol Version 11. This gives developers and service providers a live test environment.

The V11 upgrade aims to make smart contracts cheaper and faster. It also adds stronger cryptography and improves stake pool security.

In addition, the release supports future governance activity. Cardano teams now use Preview to check network behavior before wider rollout.

Node v11.0.1 plays a central role in this process. Operators need this version to cross the hard fork boundary.

Cardano-node v11.0.1 has been available for several weeks. Therefore, infrastructure teams have had time to prepare their systems.

DB-Sync v13.7.0.5 also supports the upgrade path. It works with node v11.0.1 and helps downstream services stay aligned.

PreProd Moves Forward As Teams Review Readiness

PreProd has made progress, but it has not completed the hard fork process. The Plutus Cost Model update took effect on May 16 at 0000 UTC.

This update raises some existing cost model values. So, developers need to test their applications and settings before mainnet steps begin.

The PreProd hard fork general availability action already sits on-chain. However, the Hard Fork Working Group has not recommended ratification yet.

The group continues to review readiness across key ecosystem tools. Ogmios remains a main concern because many services depend on it.

Community teams and Input Output engineers are working on related pull requests. They aim to resolve the remaining Ogmios issues before PreProd advances.

Meanwhile, the working group tracks progress during regular calls. This approach helps participants compare readiness across wallets, tools, and service providers.

Mainnet Vote Target Remains May 29

Cardano teams are also preparing the mainnet Plutus Cost Model update. They expect to announce the submission date next week.

Benchmarking data will come before the mainnet update moves ahead. Then teams can assess the cost model changes with current performance data.

The hard fork governance action remains targeted for May 29. However, that date depends on testnet progress and ecosystem readiness.

The Hard Fork Working Group continues to meet twice each week. These meetings support coordination across testing, integration, and rollout work.

The V11 hard fork also honors Max van Rossem. He worked on Cardano governance and represented the Dutch community as a DRep.

A tribute said, “Max shaped the constitutional bedrock of on-chain governance.” It also noted his work with Intersect’s Constitutional Committee Election Working Group.

Van Rossem served as a delegate at the Constitutional Convention in Buenos Aires. He also supported the addition of Article VIII to the Cardano Constitution.

He helped shape the Beyond MVG “State of Governance” report framework as well. With V11 now live on Preview, Cardano’s next steps depend on PreProd readiness and the May 29 vote target.
