MANILA, Philippines – Over the years, it’s become clear that the Palarong Pambansa isn’t just for young athletes competing for a spot on the podium. The games also double as an opportunity for host cities and provinces to showcase their culture and the beauty of their surroundings to first-time visitors.
And one of the best ways to do it is through free guided tours.
The 2026 Palarong Pambansa will be held in Agusan del Sur. Between competitions and game preparations, student-athletes, coaches and officials can explore 13 tourist sites in Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur to make the most of their stay.
The tour’s destinations include the Agusan Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary, Tugonan Falls, Bega Falls and Ecoutourism Park, Jordan Falls, Puting Buhangin Cave, Sugwak Tu Agusan: Provincial Museum, Lerio Chocolate Cafe, Soil and Biogeochemistry Research Laboratory, Toog Centennial Tree, VPO Farms and Eco Reserve, USAD Cut Flower Demo Farm, Bretania Group of Islands, and Enchanted River.
The tours will be held from May 17 to 22 and from May 27 to June 1. Transportation and entrance fees to the destinations will be covered, but extra costs like food and additional activities will be shouldered by the athletes and delegates themselves.
Those interested in availing the free tours can contact 0992 500 9677, or head to the Provincial Tourism Office of Agusan del Sur in the Gov. Democrito O. Plaza Government Center, Patin-ay, Prosperidad.
The 2026 Palarong Pambansa will officially start on May 24 and will close on May 31. The opening ceremony will be held on May 24 at the Datu Lipus Makapandong Gov. Democrito O. Plaza Sports Complex.
In last year’s edition held in Ilocos Norte, the National Capital Region took home the title of overall champion for the 18th consecutive year. – Rappler.com
