KHO-LAB Productions and Artist Playground stage Double Take, a twin bill production featuring Reverse Card and AL.TER, from May 29 to June 21. Both pieces are directed by Paul Jake Paule. Reverse Card, written by Chase Kyle Loza, follows a gay author who invites his former classmate and longtime bully to his home but then things take a sinister turn. AL.TER, written by Pablo Joaquin, follows an interior designer Al who returns to a department store filled with memories of his late partner, then he sees a stranger who looks exactly like him. Double Take runs from May 29 to June 21 at Illumination Studio, 2723 Sabio St., Corner Chino Roces Ave, Makati, with performances scheduled every Friday to Sunday at 8 p.m., and 3 p.m. matinees on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets are priced at P1,500 and are available via Ticket2Me.


Watch Manila Carnival Queens at the Metropolitan Theater

TO CAP OFF National Heritage Month, the Manila Metropolitan Theater, in collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and Panasonic: Projector and Display, is presenting Manila Carnival Queens: Celebration of Filipino Womanhood. The play is written by Nicolas Pichay, directed by Rem Zamora, and set to original music by Vincent A. de Jesus. It aims to relive the story of Manila’s famous Carnival Queens and their significant contributions to Filipino society. The free performance will be held at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila on May 30, 7 p.m.

Get nostalgic with Jesus Christ Superstar

THE Olivier Award-winning production of the 1970s sung-through rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar is now playing at The Theatre at Solaire until May 31 as part of its major international tour. This weekend’s performances are on Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 3 and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. This reimagined staging won the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival and the 2016 Evening Standard Award for Best Musical. Featuring lyrics and music by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, the production is directed by Timothy Sheader and choreographed by Drew McOnie. Jesus Christ Superstar recounts the final week leading to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ through the eyes of Judas.

THE Mari Dance Company has restaged its acclaimed production, a dance in a day in a dance by choreographer JM Cabling, with performances running until May 31 at the Doreen Black Box Theater, Areté, Ateneo de Manila University, Katipunan Ave., Quezon City. The work unifies five distinct choreographic voices into a single performance that reflects the realities of dance making in the Philippines today. The full-length contemporary dance production brings these together to narrate the lives of dancers and choreographers. IN CINEMAS now is the new supernatural horror film Passenger, featuring a mysterious evil entity on a haunted highway. Directed by André Øvredal, it stars Lou Llobell, Jacob Scipio, and Oscar winner Melissa Leo. The characters they play will attempt to solve the mystery behind the entity that haunts unsuspecting travelers on the road at night, to put a stop to its reign of terror. Passenger is showing in Philippine cinemas nationwide.


Help unveil a Pride Month mural

ARANETA CITY in Quezon City will kick off Pride Month with the unveiling ceremony of the Free to be HUE mural, an expression of commitment to inclusivity, acceptance, and self-expression. With the goal of honoring the LGBTQIA+ community, the mural outside the New Frontier Theater along Gen. Roxas Avenue will be unveiled by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and members of the LGBTQIA+ on June 2, 11 a.m. As part of the unveiling, they will help paint the mural’s final touches to contribute to the shared artwork. The event kicks off the city’s Pride Month activities.
