Marco Rubio criticized for Trump's shortcomings during Foreign Relations budget hearing

Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) delivered a sharp critique of Secretary of State Marco Rubio at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee budget hearing, characterizing President Donald Trump's foreign policy as a "dumpster fire."

Van Hollen cited multiple failures: an Iran war that has killed at least 13 U.S. service members and raised gas prices, a United Arab Emirates, or UAE, crypto deal enriching the Trump family, and United States Agency for International Development, or USAID, cuts he linked to the Democratic Republic of Congo, or DRC, Ebola outbreak.

He criticized Trump's China trip, noting the president gained nothing but "ballroom envy" over Chinese architecture while losing a comprehensive trade deal after loosening chip export restrictions to Beijing.

Van Hollen also highlighted Trump's dismissal of high gas prices as "peanuts" during 3.8% inflation.

Rubio conceded little, defending his position on Cuba's terrorism designation and denying familiarity with reports of U.S. and Israel's efforts to remove Jordan's custodianship of Al-Aqsa, a mosque complex in Jerusalem and holy site in Islam.
