KANGAR, June 13 — Police are conducting a thorough investigation into an incident involving a 12-year-old girl who fell after a female classmate allegedly pulled her chair at a national school in the Padang Besar area on Feb 11.

Padang Besar police chief ACP Mohd Shokri Abdullah said the incident occurred at about 12.15 pm when the pupil was believed to have been attempting to sit down after greeting a teacher who had entered the classroom.

“Investigations found that the incident occurred without any serious element of quarrel or hostility. Nevertheless, police have carried out a thorough investigation to ensure that all aspects of the case are properly examined,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Mohd Shokri said the victim’s mother lodged a police report at about 2.30 am on Feb 25, following which an investigation paper was opened under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

He said the investigation paper was referred to the Perlis Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office on May 19 with a recommendation for charges under the Child Act 2001.

He said the police are still awaiting further instructions from the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Earlier today, Bernama reported that the 12-year-old girl had allegedly suffered injuries that limited her mobility and prevented her from attending school for almost four months following the incident.

The girl’s mother, Norasikin Hasin, 32, claimed that her eldest child sustained a lower back soft tissue injury and was subsequently diagnosed with a functional disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). — Bernama
