Govt allocates RM1m for Bukit Kiara longhouse resettlement upkeep, DBKL to manage maintenance, says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 — The government has approved RM1 million for residents involved in the Bukit Kiara longhouse resettlement and redevelopment project, with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) tasked to manage maintenance of the housing scheme, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.

Anwar said the allocation is intended to ease the financial burden on residents after relocation and ensure the long-term upkeep of the housing area is properly managed.

“I have approved an allocation of RM1 million for the residents here.

“Later, DBKL will manage and oversee the maintenance arrangements so that monthly costs can be covered and residents are not burdened,” he said in his speech at the ground-breaking ceremony for permanent housing for Bukit Kiara longhouse residents here today.

He described the initiative as a strong example of how clear policy direction and committed leadership can deliver more equitable outcomes for the public.

Anwar also said the project should serve as a model to be shared nationwide once completed.

“For me, this is a positive example of what Malaysia can achieve. When policies are clear, leadership is committed, and there is awareness and understanding, we can build a new Malaysia that is fairer and ensures well-being for all,” he said.

“I hope those involved will be tasked after completion to go around the country and share what has been achieved here,” he added.

He said Malaysia must continue to pursue development guided by values, not profit alone, stressing the need to balance corporate interests with public welfare.

“Of course, companies should not be pushed into losses, but at the same time, profit cannot be the only consideration. The country cannot focus solely on maximising profit while ignoring the welfare of the people,” he said.

Anwar added that while businesses should continue to grow, reasonable adjustments to profit margins may be needed to ensure fairness for the public.

He said the government may step in with incentives where necessary as part of broader structural adjustments to ensure the arrangement benefits residents.
