BHS, Inc., a leading manufacturer of custom material handling solutions, has completed an upgrade to its 148,000-square-foot manufacturing campus in St. Louis, Missouri, adding a dedicated 34-foot-tall testing space for vertical reciprocating conveyors (VRCs). The new area is designed to support a more efficient quality assurance process, enabling the company to test, inspect, and calibrate fully assembled VRCs before shipment.
By assembling and pre-calibrating VRCs at the factory, BHS helps customers reduce installation time, limit disruption, and lower the cost and complexity of on-site assembly. According to Trent Boothe, Technical Sales Manager at BHS, assembled and pre-calibrated VRCs can install in half the time or less, potentially saving tens of thousands of dollars compared to on-site assembly.
The updated testing area was specifically designed for VRCs and vertical material lifts. It features modular wall bracing that allows the BHS team to test VRCs of multiple heights, including custom-sized models. A separate area also enables technicians to test custom control system integrations for various VRC configurations.
The upgraded VRC testing area will help BHS continue to develop, validate, and expand its line of VRCs, including Hydraulic Cantilever VRCs, Mechanical Straddle VRCs, and custom VRCs, all designed to safely and efficiently move materials between levels. These solutions serve applications such as mezzanine access, multi-level storage areas, production facilities, and distribution centers.
Boothe noted that BHS is always testing new design features. For instance, the company added wheels to its pre-assembled hydraulic VRCs, allowing a single forklift to move the entire VRC through a facility to the installation point and then stand it up. This small change saves time, labor, and equipment during installation.
As demand for vertical material handling solutions continues to grow, the enhanced testing area provides BHS with the flexibility and capacity to support future product development and customer requirements. The investment reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to delivering reliable, innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of industry. For more information, visit BHS, Inc..
