Peter Schiff says Bitcoin may survive 10 years but underperform gold, while Pompliano points to money printing and BTC upside.

Peter Schiff said Bitcoin may remain in financial markets, although he expects gold to perform better over time.

Peter Schiff Says Bitcoin May Survive but Lose Big Against Gold Over Time

His comments came during a June 16 Fox Business debate with Anthony Pompliano.

The debate focused on Bitcoin, gold, money printing, and long-term investor demand.

Both speakers discussed scarce assets, yet they gave different views on risk and future returns.

Schiff declined to bet that Bitcoin would fall to zero within the next 10 years. However, he said he would bet that Bitcoin underperforms gold during that period.

Pompliano argued that Bitcoin’s volatility could create stronger upside during periods of rising demand. Schiff rejected that view and said large drawdowns remain a clear risk.

Schiff Says Bitcoin Survival Does Not Prove Strength

Schiff said the key issue is not whether Bitcoin can continue to exist. Instead, he focused on whether Bitcoin can beat gold across a full market cycle.

He said gold remains the better long-term choice in his view.

During the debate, Schiff repeated his support for gold as a store of value. He said gold has a longer record during periods of currency weakness.

Therefore, he questioned Bitcoin’s role as a reliable protection asset. Schiff also pointed to Bitcoin’s past drawdowns of more than 70%.

He said those losses show that high volatility can damage investor confidence. In his view, sharp declines make Bitcoin harder to hold during stress.

Pompliano Defends Bitcoin As A Scarce Asset

Pompliano said Bitcoin and gold supporters often share one concern about government policy.

He argued that both groups expect governments to keep expanding the money supply. That concern has helped both assets attract attention from investors.

However, Pompliano said Bitcoin may offer more upside than gold over time. He linked that view to Bitcoin’s sharper price moves during strong market periods.

Schiff disagreed and said volatility should not be seen as an advantage. Pompliano also pointed to Bitcoin’s fixed supply and digital design.

Supporters often say these features make Bitcoin useful in modern financial markets. Still, Schiff said scarcity alone does not make Bitcoin better than gold.

ETF Demand Adds Pressure To The Gold Debate

Schiff also questioned demand from Bitcoin companies and exchange-traded funds

He said recent buying may help early investors sell into stronger demand. His comments placed ETF flows near the center of the discussion.

Bitcoin ETFs have made the asset easier to access through standard investment accounts. They allow investors to gain exposure without holding Bitcoin directly.

However, critics still question how demand may react during large price declines.

The debate also reflected wider market questions about Bitcoin’s role beside gold. Investors continue to compare Bitcoin’s growth case with gold’s long record.

For now, Schiff’s view remains tied to gold’s relative performance over Bitcoin.
