SINGAPORE, June 21 — A Singaporean man says he has been left shaken after discovering that a former schoolmate had been circulating AI‑generated images depicting them as a couple with a baby, along with doctored photos involving his young relatives.
According to The Straits Times, the man — identified only as Luke — first learnt of the fabricated images in December 2025, when friends alerted his sister to social‑media posts showing him with a woman claiming to be his fiancée and a child she said was theirs.
Luke, an administrative assistant, later realised the woman behind the posts was a schoolmate he had barely interacted with 15 years earlier. Over the following months, more manipulated images surfaced, including AI‑generated scenes of the pair on dates, during their school years, and even photos implying she was pregnant. The woman also used pictures of Luke’s nephew and niece, then aged six months and one year, inserting herself into the images and presenting them as her own.
Luke’s sister, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the discovery left the family distressed, especially after finding photos of her children on the woman’s Instagram account. She attempted to contact the woman to demand the removal of the images but received no response.
The situation escalated after Luke’s sister posted about the ordeal on Threads on June 7, drawing more than 12,000 likes. Several people subsequently contacted her, saying they believed the same woman had impersonated Luke online for years, using his photos to befriend others across multiple platforms.
A clinical psychologist interviewed by ST said the woman’s behaviour suggested delusional thinking and a desire to construct a fantasy relationship. Lawyers told Luke he could seek protection under the Protection from Harassment Act, which covers impersonation, AI‑generated images and false online claims.
Luke has since lodged a police report. He and his sister have also made their social‑media accounts private to prevent further misuse of their photos.
