PH’s candidates for Johor chosen on merit, not arbitrarily, says Nga

PETALING JAYA: Candidates for the Johor polls were chosen based on merit and experience, not at random, says DAP deputy national chairman Nga Kor Ming.

He said each candidate had been thoroughly vetted to ensure only those with an exemplary track record were fielded.

“These candidates have cleared multiple rounds of vetting because we want to offer nothing but the best to Bangsa Johor,” Bernama reported him as saying at a programme held by the housing and local government ministry in Skudai today.

Nga, who is also housing and local government minister, was responding to questions over the large number of fresh faces fielded by Pakatan Harapan for the upcoming state polls.

Also present at the event was J Kartiyani, PH’s candidate for the Skudai seat. Nga said that although it was her first time contesting an election, Kartiyani was no novice to community work.

“She is a Skudai native who was born, raised, and educated locally before pursuing a law degree at Universiti Malaya.

“She has served this area for over a decade before being given the opportunity to contest. We are confident she will champion the people and act as a strong bridge between the local community and the federal government,” he said.

The Election Commission has scheduled nomination day for this Saturday, with early voting on July 7, ahead of polling day on July 11.

The Johor legislative assembly has 56 seats. Before its dissolution, Barisan Nasional held 40 seats, followed by PH (12), Perikatan Nasional (three) and Muda (one).
