Michelin to close US tyre factory

PARIS: French tyre manufacturer Michelin said Thursday it plans to close one of its BFGoodrich factories in the US that employs 1,200 workers.
Michelin said that its BFGoodrich factories in the US were “operating well below their designed capacities, resulting in structural inefficiencies that cannot be sustained”.
It said it had taken the decision to wind down production by 2028 at the factory in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and consolidate nearly all production at its factory in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Michelin told AFP that it intends to offer individualised packages to accompany the Alabama site’s workers and would negotiate the conditions with trade union representatives.
Michelin said it would take a charge of around €220 million (US$250 million) for non-recurring expenses related to the closure in its 2026 results.
