PUTRAJAYA, June 29 — Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry is monitoring developments in southern Thailand after an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in Narathiwat province today, with a Malaysian‑registered vehicle reportedly caught in the blast.

The explosion occurred at about 11.45am local time, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). In a preliminary update, Wisma Putra said no Malaysian fatalities have been reported, and the Consulate General in Songkhla is in contact with Thai authorities to verify details and extend consular assistance where needed.

Malaysians living in or travelling through Thailand’s southern provinces were urged to remain alert and comply strictly with local security directives. The ministry also encouraged citizens to register their contact details on the e‑Konsular portal to ensure timely communication during emergencies.

For urgent assistance, Malaysians may contact the Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla, which can be reached via several telephone and WhatsApp lines, as well as email.

Wisma Putra said it will continue monitoring the situation and issue further updates once verified information becomes available.
