Former Damansara MP Tony Pua gave a statement to the police on May 21 to assist in their investigation.
PETALING JAYA: Former Damansara MP Tony Pua is still being investigated by the police over a Facebook post last month which touched on the constitutional monarchy system and Rukun Negara.
Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the investigation paper was referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers on May 25 before being sent back to the cops.
“Police are continuing their investigation to complete the probe paper before a final decision (on the case) is made,” he said in a written parliamentary reply.
Saifuddin said a total of 140 police reports were lodged against Pua as of June 10. The investigation is being held for the improper use of network facilities and making statements allegedly conducive to public mischief.
The minister was replying to Lim Lip Eng (PH-Kepong), who asked for an update on the case.
In his post, Pua said the powers of the monarch were limited to defined aspects such as Malay customs, Islam, and constitutional roles like the appointment of menteris besar, and approval for the dissolution of state assemblies.
The DAP disciplinary committee chairman also said Malaysians did not “live in a system whereby the monarch can issue binding decrees which legislate all aspects of our lives”.
He gave a statement to the police on May 21 to assist in their investigation.
