Oklo Adds Sodium Expertise for Aurora Development

Oklo said the acquisition brings CEI’s chemical process engineering skills into its advanced nuclear development platform. The company gains added support in sodium systems, fabrication, component development and applied research. Therefore, the deal directly supports technical work tied to Oklo’s sodium-cooled Aurora powerhouse.

CEI has worked with sodium, sodium-potassium alloy, and lithium systems since its founding in 1996. Its experience includes cleanup and decommissioning work linked to major nuclear sodium programs. These programs include the Fast Flux Test Facility, Fermi 1 and Experimental Breeder Reactor II.

Oklo and CEI had already worked together for several years before the acquisition. Their work covered sodium loops, flow meters, pumps, and sodium safety training. As a result, Oklo now brings a known technical partner into its internal development structure.

Deal Supports Faster Testing and Lower Execution Risk

Oklo expects CEI to support faster design work and better access to sodium-handling expertise. The company also expects the acquisition to reduce risks around specialized equipment, testing, fabrication, and training. That matters because sodium systems remain central to Aurora’s planned deployment pathway.

Aurora uses a sodium-cooled fast reactor design with liquid-metal cooling and passive safety features. The design also uses natural circulation to support decay heat removal after shutdown. CEI’s sodium background fits directly into Oklo’s reactor engineering and deployment needs.

CEI adds about 20 engineers, fabricators, and welders to Oklo’s technical and manufacturing team. The business also brings positive free cash flow, according to Oklo. CEI will continue serving existing commercial customers across the nuclear sector.

Acquisition Builds Oklo’s Broader Nuclear Platform

Oklo develops fast fission power plants for clean, reliable, and affordable energy at global scale. The company also works on critical isotope supply chains and advanced nuclear fuel recycling. Its fuel recycling plans aim to turn used nuclear fuel into clean energy.

The company holds a site use permit from the U.S. Department of Energy for an advanced fission plant. It also received fuel from Idaho National Laboratory for its development program. Oklo submitted a custom combined license application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Creative Engineers operates as a process development and skid fabrication company with reactive metals experience. Its work includes pilot-scale research systems, liquid-metal equipment, and chemical production. Through the deal, Oklo strengthens its Aurora push while adding specialized nuclear manufacturing capacity.
