LION Smart Production GmbH, a subsidiary of LION E-Mobility Group, is accelerating its expansion in stationary battery energy storage systems (BESS) by appointing two internationally experienced executives to key roles, the company announced on June 30, 2026. Winfried Wahl has been named Head of BESS Strategy, while Sebastian Bujnoch joins as Manager Business and Sales Development, focusing on international supplier relationships and customer growth across Europe.
The hires underscore the strategic importance of the BESS segment for LION Smart, which sees stationary storage as a critical growth pillar. Stationary energy storage systems are essential for integrating renewable energy, stabilizing power grids, and enabling future-proof energy supply concepts, the company noted.
Winfried Wahl brings more than 18 years of experience in developing markets for photovoltaic systems and stationary energy storage. A graduate electrical engineer from RWTH Aachen University, he has expertise across the entire value chain, from technology and product positioning to market entry strategies and regulatory requirements. In previous roles, Wahl helped shape the European market entry of companies such as Hithium and LONGi, building brands and product portfolios. He also contributed to developments like the BNEF Tier 1 listing and reinsurance eligibility through Munich Re. Wahl is co-author of the IEA World Energy Outlook Special Report 2024 and a long-standing jury member of PV Magazine. Since June 2026, he has been responsible for strategic development of the BESS segment at LION Smart in Garching, focusing on refining strategic positioning, developing competitive products and business models, and expanding partnerships.
Sebastian Bujnoch brings extensive international leadership experience in manufacturing, operations, and the battery sector. His career spans strategic and operational roles in complex international markets, with a particular focus on China and Asian manufacturing markets. Over 16 years, Bujnoch gained deep insights into industrial scaling, supply chain structures, and cross-border collaboration. At LION Smart, he is tasked with building and scaling the BESS business unit, strengthening relationships with Chinese suppliers, and broadening the customer portfolio in Europe.
“With Winfried Wahl and Sebastian Bujnoch, we are gaining two individuals who combine strategic market insight, international experience, and operational execution capabilities in an ideal way,” said Dr. Joachim Damasky, CEO of LION E-Mobility AG. “Their expertise will play an important role in systematically building our BESS business and positioning LION Smart as a strong partner in the European energy storage market.”
