PETALING JAYA: DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said he is not bothered (“tidak kisah”) about any potential challenger in the Chennah state seat in the upcoming Negeri Sembilan election, stressing that his focus remains on serving his constituents.

This comes after controversial businessman Albert Tei said he had been approached by an unnamed party to contest the seat, which Loke has held since 2013, and said he was considering it.

“My focus is on my work, on the people and voters of Chennah whom I’ve represented for three terms.

“So whoever wants to contest, go ahead,” Sinar Harian quoted the transport minister as saying after a MyLesen (B2) driving licence handover ceremony in Negeri Sembilan.

Loke said Malaysia’s democratic system allows anyone to stand as a candidate but stressed that all legal requirements must be met.

“We’re a democratic country. Whoever wants to be a candidate, go ahead. That’s their right,” he said.

“I just want to remind him to change his address first. If it’s not a Negeri Sembilan address, he can’t contest.”

Loke previously said that he would defend the Chennah seat. He retained the seat in the 2023 state election with a 2,200-vote majority, securing 5,888 votes against Perikatan Nasional’s Rosmadi Arif.
