Two paintings by artist Pam Skehan, “Woman in Waiting” and “Tipping Point,” have been selected by curators from The Metropolitan Museum of Art for the Louisiana Contemporary exhibition at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. The exhibition, now in its 15th year, runs from August 1, 2026, to February 14, 2027, and celebrates the diversity and creativity of artists living in Louisiana.

Juror Sarah Jones, the Lulu C. and Anthony W. Wang Head of Live Arts at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, selected 50 works by 45 artists from over 1,786 submissions. The annual juried exhibition, presented by The Helis Foundation, has featured work by more than 650 artists since its inception in 2012, establishing Louisiana Contemporary as a significant moment on the national arts calendar.

Skehan’s paintings are currently on view at Wine Art Gallery, located on Julia Street in New Orleans’ Arts District. The gallery, which represents a diverse mix of local, British, French, and Spanish artists, focuses on giving back to emerging artists while honoring the city’s unique history. More than 80% of the artists represented by Wine Art Gallery are female or underrepresented artists.

“What makes The Gallery different is the constant search for new international artists as well as its effort to give a voice to those who may not otherwise have one,” according to a statement from Wine Art Gallery. The gallery is proud to coexist with many galleries on Gallery Row, an area anchored by two Michelin-starred restaurants, Emeril’s and Peche, making Julia Street a cultural melting pot.

The Louisiana Contemporary exhibition provides a platform for artists across the state to showcase their work, reflecting the breadth of creative voices emerging from New Orleans and Louisiana’s arts communities. The selection of Skehan’s work underscores the gallery’s mission to elevate local talent and contribute to the national recognition of Louisiana artists.
