Key highlights:

  • Ripple has won a key regulatory nod from Luxembourg’s financial regulator
  • The company has secured a CASP license to offer services across 30 EEA countries
  • This follows the acquisition of an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license earlier

Ripple has secured a major regulatory milestone in Europe. The crypto payments company has reportedly won a MiCA license in Luxembourg, which allows Ripple to expand its crypto services across 30 countries in the European Economic Area (EEA).

With this full MiCA authorization from Luxembourg’s regulator, the XRP-focused company is now compliant with the EU’s new crypto regulations. This development marks a major achievement for the company as it continues to expand its crypto payment services across the world.

Ripple gains access to 30 European crypto markets

Earlier today, Ripple announced its full Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) license acquisition from Luxembourg’s Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier. Under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, the company is now able to offer its services to clients across 30 EEA countries.

Notably, the current approval follows the platform’s preliminary authorization in June. While the initial approval meant that Ripple met key regulatory requirements under MiCA, the latest move indicates that the platform is completely fit for the European crypto markets. Cassie Craddock, the Managing Director at Ripple Europe and UK, stated,

Only a handful of firms are licensed under MiCA

Interestingly, Ripple’s latest achievement is particularly noteworthy as getting licensed in Europe is pretty difficult. Even many of the crypto platforms already operating on the continent failed to secure a CASP license under the new MiCA rules.

As the MiCA rules have become effective on July 1, 2026, all crypto platforms need to have a CASP license to operate in the region. What makes Ripple ahead is that only a few firms have successfully completed the licensing procedures. Even crypto exchanges like Binance failed to meet the MiCA standards in time.

Several platforms are still waiting to receive a regulatory nod from the watchdog. Some companies have even faced regulatory issues, which forced them to suspend their operations. Companies like Tether have chosen not to apply for a MiCA license due to concerns over several regulatory requirements, especially surrounding stablecoins.

Ripple is expanding beyond crypto trading

Significantly, Ripple’s acquisition of the new CASP license comes on the heels of another major approval in Europe. Reportedly, Ripple secured an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license in Luxembourg. This license permits the company to provide regulated fiat and electronic money payment services across the EU. Thus, now Ripple is a strong player in the European crypto markets. The platform can offer both traditional payment services and crypto transactions.
