With the constructors’ title now done and dusted, McLaren will shift their focus to the drivers’ championship and will aim to get back to winning ways after going three rounds without a victory – their most recent one came in the Netherlands back in August.

They also hope the short break has cooled off the tension between Piastri and Norris after it reached a new high in Singapore when both banged wheels on the first lap of the race.

Now entering the final stretch of the season, both drivers will need to maintain focus and avoid further mistakes that could prove costly in their bid for a maiden drivers’ title and the team’s first since 2008.

With it being a sprint weekend, there is a maximum of 33 points up for grabs for a driver at COTA, which makes this round a crucial one for either Piastri to widen his 22-point lead or Norris to close in on his teammate in the standings.

Third-placed Verstappen is also a strong contender to win in Austin as the Dutchman is currently on a remarkable run of form, having finished not lower than second since the summer break. He also won three of the last four United States Grands Prix, and a victory this weekend will be crucial for him to keep his title hopes alive as he now sits 63 points behind leader Piastri.
