Exclusive: Director Tara Wood is releasing her hotly anticipated four-part Tim Burton docuseries in an innovative way on streaming — and just in time for Halloween.

Wood’s docuseries, which is officially titled Tim Burton: Line in the Line, premiered the first episode of the then-untitled four-part chronicle at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City in June of 2024.

According to the press release about the Tim Burton: Life in the Line docuseries platform, fans for the first time “will experience the definitive portrait of Burton through the people who know him best — his collaborators, muses, and creative partners.”

Tara Wood interviewed several of Tim Burton’s collaborators for the docuseries, including Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder, Helena Bonham Carter, Danny Elfman, Jenna Ortega, Christoph Waltz, Mia Wasikowska, Michael Keaton and Danny DeVito. In addition, Wood interviewed some of Burton’s key creatives behind the camera, including Rich Heinrichs, Colleen Atwood, Denise Di Novi, Allison Abbate, Jenny He and Derek Frey.

“Tim’s team gave us extraordinary access to his archives, and his collaborators shared deeply emotional, revealing interviews,” Wood said in the press release. “The documentary feels like wandering through his mind — an inspiring journey that makes you want to reconnect with your own creative self.”

Tim Burton: Life in the Line chronicles everything from Burton’s early days at Disney to the making of Edward Scissorhands, Batman and The Nightmare Before Christmas to his most recent project, the blockbuster Netflix series Wednesday.

“The series traces Burton’s evolution from misunderstood artist to cultural architect — exploring how he redefined Halloween, inspired generations of outsiders, and built a cinematic family of misfits and dreamers,” the press release noted.

Tara Wood’s Tim Burton: Life in the Line docuseries will premiere on the site’s independent OTT streaming platform on Oct. 23.
