The second season of “The Boys” spinoff series “Gen V” wraps up Thursday with its eighth episode. Will the show get another season?
Before Gen V Season 2 returned on Sept. 17, the show suffered the devastating loss of cast member Chance Perdomo, who died in a motorcycle accident on March 30, 2024. Opting not to recast the actor’s role of Godolkin University student Andre Anderson, Gen V not only addresses the loss of Perdomo’s core character during Season 2, but it also salutes the actor’s spirit by making his loss a part of the overall storyline.
The official summary for Gen V Season 2 reads, “School is back in session. As the rest of America adjusts to Homelander’s iron fist, back at Godolkin University, the mysterious new Dean, Cipher (Hamish Linklater), preaches a curriculum that promises to make students more powerful than ever.
“Cate (Maddie Phillips) and Sam (Asa German) are celebrated heroes, while Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Jordan (London Thor) and Emma (Lizzie Broadway) reluctantly return to college, burdened by months of trauma and loss. But parties and classes are hard to care about with war brewing between Humans and Supes, both on and off campus. The gang learns of a secret program that goes back to the founding of Godolkin University that may have larger implications than they realize. And, somehow, Marie is a part of it.”
Gen V Season 2 wraps up with its eighth episode on Wednesday on Prime Video, and with the season finale comes the inevitable question of whether the storyline will continue on with another season. Unlike the announcement of the second season of Gen V — which came at the midway point of Season 1 in October of 2023 — Prime Video has not yet indicated what the plans are, if any, for a third season of the superhero series.
At the very least, characters from the series are certain to appear in the upcoming fifth and final season of Prime Video’s The Boys, much in the way some of The Boys’ characters made cameos in Gen V’s episodes in Seasons 1 and 2. In addition, since Gen V Season 1 was released in 2023, some of its characters made appearances in The Boys Season 4 in 2024.

‘Gen V’ Co-Creator Says Viewership Will Be A Key Factor In Getting A Third Season
Gen V co-creator Eric Kripke, who also created The Boys, told The Wrap Pro (via IGN) recently that the idea of Gen V Season 3 happening largely depends on the viewership of Season 2.
The encouraging news for fans of the series is that Kripke and his fellow Gen V creatives are discussing Season 3 even though it hasn’t received a green light yet from Prime Video.
“We have a plan for Gen V Season 3, and we’re psyched about it, but we need enough viewers to watch Season 2 to justify Season 3,” Kripke told The Wrap Pro. “Now’s the time that they’re paying attention to the numbers. So don’t watch even a year from now. Turn on Prime [Video] and watch it now. If enough people watch, then we’ll get a Season 3.”
Of course, with the eighth episode of Gen V Season 2 fresh on the streaming platform, it will take some time to crunch viewership numbers for the season finale and how much it adds to the overall viewership of Episodes 1 through 7.
The good news for Prime Video is that Gen V Season 2 got off to a great start with its biggest week of viewership to date. Per the Nielsen Ratings (via The Wrap), the first three episodes of Gen V Season 2 — which premiered on Prime Video on Sept. 17 — amassed 424 million viewing minutes for the weeklong period beginning Sept. 15.
