The post Don’t Watch ‘Parish’ On Netflix, Watch This Overlooked Show Instead appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Netflix has an ongoing deal with AMC to grab a lot of their programming after it airs, from a bunch of Walking Dead shows to its new Vampire/Witch-based Anne Rice universe. But it’s now gotten a show that’s not on the same level as those at all, Parish, the crime drama starring Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito. Here’s the synopsis: “Haunted by the violent murder of his son, Gray Parish finds himself thrust into an adrenaline-charged thrill ride through the criminal underworld; with no escape, the wrong way may be his only way out.” I mean, that doesn’t sound half bad for a concept, but…it is half bad. Actually, fully bad. Parish is just not a good show, outside of Esposito as a lead, who always lends talent to any role. But he can’t save Parish, which boasts an impressively bad 33% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. Here’s one of those critic reviews: Variety – “With so many storylines, characters and revelations, Parish loses its plot, and even the prowess of Esposito can’t save it from feeling like a cobbled-together journey with no distinct destination.” So, skip Parish, but if you’re looking for something similar, I suggest you head back in time to another show that may scratch the same itch while not being, you know, bad. We are going back to 2018 for a Netflix original that didn’t garner all that much attention at the time, but it’s very good with a solid 78% Rotten Tomatoes critic score and an 84% from the audience. The show is called Seven Seconds, and here is its synopsis: “When 15-year-old black cyclist Brenton Butler dies in a hit-and-run accident — with a white police officer behind the wheel of the vehicle — Jersey City explodes with racial tension. “When 15-year-old black cyclist Brenton Butler dies in a hit-and-run accident — with a white police officer behind the wheel of the vehicle — Jersey City explodes with racial tension. This crime drama explores the aftermath of the accident, which includes an attempted cover-up by the police department and a volatile trial. Assistant prosecutor KJ wants to prosecute the hit-and-run as a hate crime, in addition to a negligent homicide. The longer the case drags on without a resolution, the more tense the situation becomes. Emmy winner Regina King stars as Brenton’s churchgoing mother, Latrice.”

Regina King gives a stellar performance here, and while not action-oriented, this is a very powerful drama, and I think a somewhat similar, but better alternative to Parish, also available on Netflix. I didn’t watch Seven Seconds in 2018, but I did catch it in the years since, and I can vouch for its quality. Meanwhile, I wanted to give Parish a shot because of Esposito and only made it through two episodes. I wouldn’t bother with it.

Fed Makes First Rate Cut of the Year, Lowers Rates by 25 Bps

The post Fed Makes First Rate Cut of the Year, Lowers Rates by 25 Bps appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. The Federal Reserve has made its first Fed rate cut this year following today’s FOMC meeting, lowering interest rates by 25 basis points (bps). This comes in line with expectations, while the crypto market awaits Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s speech for guidance on the committee’s stance moving forward. FOMC Makes First Fed Rate Cut This Year With 25 Bps Cut In a press release, the committee announced that it has decided to lower the target range for the federal funds rate by 25 bps from between 4.25% and 4.5% to 4% and 4.25%. This comes in line with expectations as market participants were pricing in a 25 bps cut, as against a 50 bps cut. This marks the first Fed rate cut this year, with the last cut before this coming last year in December. Notably, the Fed also made the first cut last year in September, although it was a 50 bps cut back then. All Fed officials voted in favor of a 25 bps cut except Stephen Miran, who dissented in favor of a 50 bps cut. This rate cut decision comes amid concerns that the labor market may be softening, with recent U.S. jobs data pointing to a weak labor market. The committee noted in the release that job gains have slowed, and that the unemployment rate has edged up but remains low. They added that inflation has moved up and remains somewhat elevated. Fed Chair Jerome Powell had also already signaled at the Jackson Hole Conference that they were likely to lower interest rates with the downside risk in the labor market rising. The committee reiterated this in the release that downside risks to employment have risen. Before the Fed rate cut decision, experts weighed in on whether the FOMC should make a 25 bps cut or…

Adam Wainwright Takes The Mound Again Honor Darryl Kile

The post Adam Wainwright Takes The Mound Again Honor Darryl Kile appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. (Photo by Brandon Sloter/Image Of Sport/Getty Images) Getty Images St. Louis Cardinals lifer Adam Wainwright is a pretty easygoing guy, and not unlikely to talk with you about baseball traditions and barbecue, or even share a joke. That personality came out last week during our Zoom call when I mentioned for the first time that I’m a Chicago Cubs fan. He responded to the mention of my fandom, “So far, I don’t think this interview is going very well.” Yet, Wainwright will return to Busch Stadium on September 19 on a more serious note, this time to honor another former Cardinal and friend, the late Darryl Kile. Wainwright will take the mound not as a starting pitcher, but to throw out the game’s ceremonial first pitch. Joining him on the mound will be Kile’s daughter, Sierra, as the two help launch a new program called Playing with Heart. “Darryl’s passing was a reminder that heart disease doesn’t discriminate, even against elite athletes in peak physical shape,” Wainwright said. “This program is about helping people recognize the risks, take action, and hopefully save lives.” Wainwright, who played for the St. Louis Cardinals as a starting pitcher from 2005 to 2023, aims to merge the essence of baseball tradition with a crucial message about heart health. Kile, a beloved pitcher for the Cardinals, tragically passed away in 2002 at the age of 33 as a result of early-onset heart disease. His sudden death shook the baseball world and left a lasting impact on teammates, fans, and especially his family. Now, more than two decades later, Sierra Kile is stepping forward with Wainwright to…
